I've never used one, but now I'd like to start tracking mileage, speed and cadence. What model(s) offer the best price/value and are simple to use? Should I go wired or wireless?

If you need more than 1 computer for multiple bikes, i think garmin 305 at current prices is the best deal. you only need one comp and it comes with mounting hardware for 2 bikes, gives you HRM, cadence, keeps total riding history on multiple bikes.

What's the bare minimum one spend on a wireless computer and actually get something pretty good? I had a $20 one that I got halfway into setting up the wired cadence before I decided it was total junk and gave up.

$40.00 will get you the Specialized Speedzone Elite, wired w/ Cadence and 2nd bike option, but no H.R.

I have been happy with mine, had it almost a year now. And am planning on a 2nd one also. That way I can use 1 for my 2 Road bikes, and one on the Mtb's.

Cateye Strada Cadence... has mileage, speed, and cadence for under $30 shipped. That's hard to beat IMO. I also use a $30 HRM that attaches to my handlebars. I'm too poor for more than that. Or else I would reccomend the Garmin 305.

We shop at the same place heh, the one I ditched was a Filzer dB4LW-C.

My range is probably under $40 retail at a shop. Maybe realistically $30 when I feel like I'm spending $40 on a calculator watch that isn't either a calculator or a watch and doesn't look as cool. Saving for a handlebar mirror and big orange flag now that I'm starting to feel like I'm a road beast and likely wildly mistaken.

Is it just me or is does that mounting system suck? Granted it's an SRM and would love to have one. but...... and does not fit into OP's $40 budget.

Blackburn Delphi 4.0. You can get them on ebay for $40-$50. Wireless front sensor and wired cadence.

Astrale 8. About $25 - $35 depending on where you buy. I've used them for many years and it is a fabulous basic computer with cadence

I have a Mity 8 on the roadie and a Micro wireless on the MTB, I'd like to have a double wireless on the roadie, but I can't justify that much coin on something I just use to keep track of mileage...and don't want a wire running down the frame for the cadence.

i like the cateye micro wireless. saw one on ebay for $40 with free shipping. doesn't have cadence or heart rate, though. to be perfectly honest, i wouldn't mind having cadence.

The Cateye Strada Cadence wireless looks pretty good from the online literature. Maybe $60, wireless with the features I want. I can't tell from their website though if I can use the same computer on multiple bikes (which I have) if I buy extra sender/sensor units.

So what I'm looking for is a computer with cadence that I can swap out on a few bikes. This also means that I'd like a mounting system that I can change out quickly without tools. The Cateye Cadence advertises this, but I'm not sure if it really works.

The other question is whether or not the wireless sytems are reliable or not.

My price range is flexible. I'm willing to spend up to $100 if I can buy extra sensors for a few bikes, swap without tools, and the thing actually works as adverstised.

Oh, and if it doesn't have cadence I don't need it. I'm pretty aware of how far I ride and I can calculate my average speed once I'm home if I look at my watch. I really would like to know my cadence while I'm riding.

i got an E3 F10 or something like that from Performance for 25, should be 20 now.

its more than decent. the other day though I was riding on in the bike lane w/traffic and i was doing 20mph for about 1 minute and nothing changed on the distance. it just stayed at 20.1 miles total.

but yeah, its fine for the price.

+1 to Astrale and the Strada.

I wish there was a computer which recorded ride times/distances/averages for the last ride as well as cumulative. On the Astrale, you have to reset the distance and time in order to record this info for each ride - the only cumulative info that remains is the odometer.
