I always seem to have 2, and they seem to often be treks...
currently
610 rando style road bike, soon to be a path racer, waiting for the s3x
620 touring bike
Before I got the 620 my touring bike was
trek 950 lugged steel mountain bike, set up with drop bars and command shifters
before the 610, I had a Nishiki fixed gear,
before that, a new Trek mountain bike

Somehow though, never more than two at a time.

I buy a lot of bikes on CL, or garage sales and I clean them, tune them, fix them, and prep them for resale. So at any point in time, I can have as many as 11-12 bikes in my basement.

But the permanent fleet is comprised of the following:

1) Giant Transend (2008)- the every day commuter.
2) GT talera (early 90's)- winter commuter
3) Jamis Dakota (1986)- awesome example of a vintage MTB.
4) Specialized Sirrus (1991ish)- primary road bike. (back before the Sirrus became a hybrid.)
5) Rampar R-four (1976)- a gift from my dad who rebuilt it for me when I was 14.
6) Puch Brigadier (1973)- my dad's first road bike. It was passed on to me as my first.

I think that's it.

I'll edit to add that I am a devout member of the church of N+1.

One. I'm the one in my family who rides 100x more than anyone else, and I'm the only one who doesn't have multiple bikes.

I'd buy another bike if I thought I had a reason, but I really don't. I don't ride recreationally at all (not that I wouldn't like to, I simply don't have the time). My bike gets me to work and back and that's all I want.

???? Older Vision VR40 - recumbent, currently a parts donor for the P-38
2002 Cannondale Jeckyl MTB - my main off-road thrasher
2003 Fuji Royale - road bike
2005? Cannondale F600 - stored in Flagstaff, AZ for use when I visit family there.

Elusor,
I have one of those frames too. I bought it (on Ebay) from a company that bought a bunch of leftover frames from the company that was turning those Montigue frames into electric bikes. Not sure if the electric bike company is still in business. I wanted to build up a city bike that could fit into a suitcase.

I took years to reach my personal bike zen,but it was worth it.
"Too be one with everything. I need one of everything."
1 road bike
1 flat bar road bike
1 cycle cross bike
1 mountain bike
1 hybrid/utility bike

That was all the room I have in the toybox I call a garage.
