SoCal BITD ... Raincross Bikes and Darrel Hand

Does anyone happen to recall what became of Raincross Bicycle In Riverside and the owner, Darrell Hand?

The late 70's early 80's were some fun times hanging out there

Thanks

I frequently wonder, too. I worked at the shop for a short spell in '79. Darrell was a very nice man and good cyclist.
My story had me needing a quick part-time job, prior to attending UC Riverside. Came into his shop to see if he needed an experienced wrench.
He told me he did not need anybody. Then a customer came in and he got busy. Then another...then another, with the entrance bell ringing constantly.
Finally, he said "You are hired." He liked my handling of people, watched my mechanic's skills, and kept me on for several months till school began.
A strong racer worked there at the time. Tall slender kid with long straight blond hair and a super nice dude. I forget his name.

That might have been Al Dudley. He was there for some time.

The name "Dave" comes to mind. Another racer hung out at the shop. Around 5-8, 140, while "Dave" seemed 6-0, 140.
You might consider inserting "Raincross Cyclery" into your thread title. And even Darrell Hand. It might elicit more responses.
BTW, I popped into the shop just before Christmas '79 and Darrell let me pick out a Clement Criterium sewup. I still own it!
