SoCal century resources

anybody know where to see a CURRENT list of rides and dates? I've been using the channel island bike club's site but it's not really up to date.

I also don't think I'm ready to tackle any of the ridiculous-mode centuries (anything with a "double" or "death" in it or put on by planet ultra)

I guess you stand alone then. I pretty much deserved it anyway.

Joe, you should check out the sticky, you know, in case you ever decide to ride your bike again. That Tour de Cure is gonna hurt if it's your first ride of the year.

No joke. We rode out in Westlake Village on Sunday, are doing the Marathon crash ride this Sunday and maybe the 50 mile route at the Santa Clarita Century...but yes, I think we're in for a world of hurt!

Oh yeah, forgot about the marathon ride, that should be entertaining.

I may have to boogie on the TDC - my daughter has a soccer game in El Segundo or something at about 4 pm. No time to dawdle! Disappearing for a full day for bike rides is one thing but Missing Kid Events is frowned upon and has consequences.

Did that one last year....the wind was awful once out of town. Suffered a ton in the first 25 miles to the park. At least the second half was mostly downhill.

In that case, Ride Around the Bear would be a good place to start. No "double" or "death" in the title, yet there is plenty of climbing (9,400 ft. IIRC) in a bit over 100 miles for a lovely day on the bike. That and, well, "Breathless Agony" doesn't have either of those "d" words in it either, yet I find it a tad more challenging than The Bear. They are both wonderful rides; some challenge sure, but quite do-able. And . . . both are put on by wonderful people with excellent clubs behind them.

I'm on to your game Rick... BA is definitely out this year and RAB is unlikely... probably. I need to get some extended climbing in before I go signing up for one of those things.

Trojan, if you do not mind the drive up north, there is a century in Napa Valley in August (8/18/13 this year). It's almost a mandatory 3 day weekend because the century is on a Sunday. Of all the event centuries I've done (at least a dozen), it is my favorite. Make it a four day weekend and you have Friday afternoon and Saturday to hit the wineries.

Cruising happens to be on the same day that I signed my son up for some webelos activity at the california science center...

Tragically, my kids are in school in early August now. I think they start on about the 10th or so? It's crazy. Besides, that's the weekend of Cool Breeze, the hilliest century in California.

I'm eyeballing one in Sonoma for May 18 - the backroads challenge starting in petaluma. My wife had penciled in "weekend in Napa" on the google calendar, how can she say no?

That Napa century does look like a nice route - The missus and I made the trek up there last memorial day and brought our bikes for some riding. She's allergic to hills so we kept it largely flat but it was indeed gorgeous.

Great idea though.

Not if you remember this very important advice: Always stay married to a Cyclist. I got it wrong on my first wife, but learned from my mistake and got it completely right the 2nd time!
