Campy 9 speed shifter / Shimano 9 speed derailleur compatability
Does anyone know if the new Campagnolo Xenon 9X Ergo shifters work with Shimano 9 speed derailleurs? I'm currently using a Campy 9 speed cassette.
After 13 years, my DuraAce 7500 right shifter, now on my commuter, suddenly stopped working. I found a twist tie jammed into the cam mech, my attempt to remove it resulted in getting only part of it out. How that got there is beyond me. So, now that part of that twist tie is stuck in the shifter, the small lever moves the brake lever slightly when shifting so it doesn't upshift unless I hold the brake lever straight.
I can buy a set of used shifters from eBay but they're pretty beat up or I can buy new Campy Xenon shifters from PBK for a lot less money.
Any insight is greatly appreciated

Assuming that you want it to index, the shifter and derailleur cable pull have to synchronize. I don't think that a Campy shifter and a Shimano derailleur will work together.

Yeah, I figured as much. I found a good article on the pull ratios and sprocket spacing. Campy 9 speed shifters with Shimano 9 speed derailleurs is one of the combinations that don't work together.
Rear Shifting | CTC
I've decided to ditch the 9 speed and go with new Campy 10 speed Veloce from PBK. Then my CX bike will finally match my road bike drive train (Record 10) and I will be able to use my road wheels on my CX bike.
Thanks for the reply. Cheers!

Take a look at the Jtek Shiftmate, mostly currently being sold by SJS Cycles
Chrome Molly said he had a spare Shiftmate #3 to go from Campy Shifters to Shimano derailleur (and cassette?)
There are a couple of combinations that work with Campy Shifters and Shimano cassettes.
For example, NEW Campy 9s shifters + OLD Campy (8s/9s) derailleurs ==> Shimano 9s Cassette.
Someone was saying an 11s shifter with??? ==> 9s???
Also the Shiftmate #1 works with Campy shifters + Campy derailleur ==> Shimano Cassette (9 or 10)

Option 1
It looks like Jtek Shiftmate #3 is the one I need. This with the Campy Xenon 9 speed shifters will be a ~$140 fix, its way better than buying a set of beat-up used shifters off of eBay for about the same price. IMO.
Option 2
The Campy Veloce 10 speed solution from PBK is really intriguing. this will run about $350 with new cables / housing but all 3 of my wheel sets between my road bike and CX / commuter are now compatible. If I sell my DuraAce RD and DuraAce Cassette, along with a new Ultegra 9 speed cassette i have, the costs differential will be much less.
Decisions, decisions....

FWIW I have a set of Campy Mirage 9spd brifters with cables, all never used, NOS from 2007. Also have a set of Centaur 10spd FD, RD and brifters
with ~2000 miles on them from an experiment with compact in 2005. Didn't like the compact mostly because the 12-25 cassette was a little too
steep gearing then but with Di2 and 11/28, compact works great. Mirage for $50 and the used Centaur group for $100.
If not too far down the Campy pecking order and interested: schnineteenfortythreeatgmail change to arabic numerals and add dotcom
Always liked your cat picture, wonder who did the original.

Very well. I've use them to make a 9-speed Shimano cassette and rear derailleur shift with 10-speed Campy Ergos and a 10-speed Campy cassette and rear derailleur shift with 10-speed Shimano shifters. Worked great both times.

Agreed. I have 5 ShiftMates in use with three different pulleys and two different pulley housing types. All work well. My first one was installed back in 2006 or 7. With such a good solution I see no need for jerry rigging cable clamp points and other kludges. Andy.

Here is a good summary of shifting, cable pulls, etc.
https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bicycl...ing_Dimensions
According to the chart (and from what others have mentioned)
Campagnolo 11 shifters + Shimano Rear Derailleur ==> sprocket pitch of 4.48
Shimano and SRAM 9 have a pitch of 4.35, and Campy 9 has a pitch of 4.55.
So, people have found that the Campy 11 shifters with a Shimano derailleur should be able to shift either Campy or Shimano 9s, I think.
Also read about the "Hubbub" cable routing that may allow the Campy 11 to work with Shimano 10s, or Campy 10s to work with Shimano 9s.
