I saw at a recent fair a modern (carbon) bicycle that eliminates the front derailleur, and only proposed an internal gear hub with sprocket cassette.
You still have two shifters, but there is no front derailleur as the interal gear hub offers { 75%, 100%, 133$ }.

Unfortunately that bicycle is 135 OLN, 11speed cassette.
I wonder if it's possible to make something similar for a classic bicycle frame, with

• Compatible with standard 135mm frame dropouts (OLN=135mm)
• 8speed sprockets
• Campagnolo 8speed cassette { 11..34 } teeth compatible
• Rotary gear selector without protrusions outside the frame
• it would be even nicer to find a hub that uses a quick release axle

I see Strurmey Archer has some internal gear hubs...
however

• RS-RF3 (see here), OLN=128mm, Rotary gear selector without protrusions outside the frame, no cassette, no quick release axle (it uses nuts)
• CS-RF3 (see here), OLN=135mm, 8speed cassette (even Campagnolo's?) compatibile, but protrusions outside the frame!, no quick release axle (it uses nuts)

What you probably saw was the Classified Powershift hub. It has been dubbed the "front derailleur killer" The hub itself is pretty high tech with wireless electronic shfting. It is also pretty expensive. There have been other IGH hubs that also had a rear derailleur to go with however many gears that the hub contained, but a disadvantage that many IGH hubs have is that the has have a fair bit of internal friction. The Powershift hub isn'r really any less efficient than a single speed hub and shifting is very quick.

Yeah, I saw a little battery-pack, so it is likely wireless-controlled.
It was a prototype bicycle, I couldn't get close to it or try it.
I asked for the probable final price, they replied that it will be in the order of 6000 euros.

It could probably be done, you would need to coldset the frame to 135 or find someone to do it for you. I had considered doing this with my Shipmano Nexus wheelset before I decided I wanted to put them in a Mixtie.

Now elimiating the FD.... It isn't as hightech as this spaceage Ehub but I believe Sachs made a two or three speed internal hub that accepeted a FW or a cassette hub. Might be a less costly solution but you still need a second shifter. And of course I can't find a pic of it. They made a few clunky models with a drum brake but I believe in last gasp effort they had just a 2 speed for the New SUccess group.
