Another look at the temporarily primered rack. There's still finishing to do, but I wished to seal it up until I can get back to it next weekend.



Not bad for a surface-rusty, overpriced and underbuilt bike previously crown to the Worst Saddle in the World.

But you see, mine already has a Sturmey-Archer drivetrain, and is therefore already superior in every way to that derailing thingamabob.

Kurt, you've inspired me to try the OA towel wrap treatment on my pre-war New World. Those are amazing results.

Thanks for all the pictures from Mike's frame shop. That is an amazing paint job on what has to be the most classy modern frame I've laid eyes upon! Thanks for sharing.

Is the wood blocking a custom gage to make certain the saddle and replacement seat post are returned to their original positions? If so, a clever idea, worth making into an adjustable tool for future use.

He tends to dismiss it as "early work," but he doesn't have a spare on hand (not that he'd ride, anyway). I keep telling him he needs to N+1 his rider fleet, but he wants to build it with the same True Temper S3 tubeset as this one - no longer in production and not easy to get.

Yes, it's a copy of an existing bike fitting tool modified so we could get the saddle in the same spot after getting the post out.

Unfortunately, the two-clamp design of the replacement Deda post meant we couldn't get it as far back as with the Easton single-clamp. We had to leave it a quarter inch further forward.

I somewhat spoiled the latest updates in the companion thread to this (OA with a towel: A successful experiment), but since I have results to share, I'll commit the sin of a few duplicated photos.

First off, last night's barrage of paper towels:



And the results. Not in lovely sunshine, but in gray grey cloud cover of looming rain. I swear, this thing brings England with it whenever I even think about rolling it outdoors.









The patent decal didn't survive the ordeal, but I didn't expect it. I'm going to re-do this area as it still seems a bit rust stained. Decal will get polished off and replaced with the one I have on order from H Lloyd's.

It's a '75 Raleigh Professional Mk.IV., Bob - have had it for a while and trying to get rid of it - though I'm starting to re-think keeping the components and wheelset.

I do plan to strip and repaint the racks, but the ONE painter I found locally stopped taking on jobs about a year ago. I don't want to have anything sprayed on them other than epoxy-based 2K paint so it lasts. I also don't have a media blaster either.

No real updates on this - other than it's been working flawlessly, always a plus - other than this amusing anecdote:

After using the Moulton to deliver a package to the neighborhood USPS postman a week ago, I passed a trash pile and spied a pair of nice aluminum frames thrown out in them. In one of them was a poorly mounted 1994 Grand Prix of Miami poster, slightly water damaged, but not enough to have ruined it.

I only had one bungee cord which made things interesting to say the least, but I have newfound respect for that pizza peel that the good Dr. Moulton stuck on the back of his contraption:

I had one of those and used it for years as a daily commuting bike. Stock except for a B-72. The racks are big and hold alot of weight, a great city workhorse machine. It behaved well with tons of cargo on it also. Sadly mine was stolen, but it was given to me for free so I'm even.

When my wife and I were in Iowa last month to visit our son, we decided to stop at the American Pickers shop in Le Claire. It is more of a souvenir / gift shop than an antique store, but they have some things on display that they have picked on the show. On the way out, I spied a white Moulton sitting outside, next to the building. I already have enough to stay busy for a while, so I didn't go back to ask about it, but if I had seen it on the way in, I might have.
