Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Alternatively, I could switch to DT Swiss rims if they have a similar product. I put a DT Swiss rear rim on the mtb after the original WTB rim developed 9 cracks (yes, I counted them). So far it's been fine.
The rear wheel on the Ritchey developed a couple bulges. I went to my LBS and he almost immediately said "The rim's worn out" - the brake track area was concave, weakening the rim so hits caused the bulging. I took those wheels out of service, then dicked around for a year before I got around to ordering new rims. And now I've dicked around for 6 months not rebuilding the wheels....

The last one I replaced got thin enough to deform the brake track and cause thumping. This time it's from a pothole. I was shocked the tire didn't flat.

I don't have 40 bikes like some people. I do have the Gunnar but prefer to ride the Seven. I can't switch wheels because Campagnolo. The only extra wheel I have with a Campagnolo hub has a broken freehub body which I can't find a replacement for.

I called my source for Mavic rims and he has a 28 and a 36 but no 32s. Mavic doesn't even have distributors in the USA now but my guy said they might come back.

Anyone know an on-line store in Europe besides Merlin?

I went to one NASCAR event back in the late 80s. Been to many more other stock car events on 1/2 mile ovals though.

Here's the Camaro sticking out like a sore thumb at Le Mans, it doesn't really look that out of place next to some of the GTs though.

Saturday afternoon was warm, and nice, but something about the La Tuna fire road climb always seems to be an extra 10+ degrees hotter than anywhere else. 92-94 on the middle of the climb. 82 on top. I've noticed the same thing before.

Sunday afternoon was pretty much my favorite kind of cycling temperature - 68 and sunshine. I both enjoyed and didn't enjoy the wind during my road ride.

It's been a steady light drizzle and high 50s in my 'hood, all day. If it's not dripping tomorrow, I expect excellent dirt conditions on Brown Mountain tomorrow evening.

There are a couple spots on my routes where the temperature changes significantly in a real short space, though mostly it's LOWER temps. One spot in Woodside, on a hot day feels like opening the door of an air conditioned building, for about 50 yards.

We have a couple of those, too. There's one particular section well known to roadies in the area as "the icebox".

I've only been on La Tuna fire road once a long time ago. If it's the same one you're talking about it's a dead end at the top. If there are any side trails I don't know about them.

Drizzling all day here but my friend in Canyon Country called and said the streets are dry out there so we will ride from his place tomorrow. Maybe go to Acton if not too windy.

The La Tuna fire road starts where La Tuna Canyon Rd hits the 210. It's a 3 mile climb and connects to the network of roads and trails in the Verdugo Hills. Definitely not a dead and, and hasn't been as long as I've known about it. My route... https://www.strava.com/activities/9197332267

I've done the fire road but didn't know about any of the other stuff. It was raining hard when I went up there.

What you did looks like a nice ride. You start from home? Almost all dirt?

I did start from home. Although there are options I could have taken to include more dirt in my ride, it was almost all pavement from home to the start of the La Tuna climb, and from the bottom of Beaudry (east end of the Verdugo Hills) back to home. If I had a bigger window of time available, I would have added some additional dirt in the mix. My route included about 8.5 miles of continuous dirt. My gravel bike is efficient enough on the road not to be a bummer.
