Champlain Valley Trail
Has anyone ridden the Champlain Valley Trail from Waterford NY to Canadian border?
Advise motels and or camping arrangements along the way.
Not much amenity info on the Empire State Trail Maps
Thanks

I do see that there are some tent icons near the route. If you click on those there is more info., But yeah, not much else. They should put together a list like there is for the GAP.

I assume you've seen this?
https://www.champlainbikeways.org/accommodations.htm
I've done some research on this one for possible trip next year. I have a couple hundred miles mapped out, but still need to do more work.
I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with..please post back..

What I have done for route planning is to pick the towns names along the way and then Google them with queries about camping, motels, B&Bs, etc.
Also search the archives here and at CGOAB for others who may have travelled that way.

Same here. I’ll start with something like Google Maps to get rough distances between areas then search something like “campgrounds near [name of town]”. Panning in can return more results.

Using a AAA Vermont map, found several campgrounds along the way. Will start looking into motels also.
Trying to decide if NY Route 9 or the Canal Trail route is better.
Was thinking of hitting the US/Canada border, then sliding into Vermont and heading back into NY to the starting point at Waterford

See my thread of today with map. Last month I rode home from St. Albans City, VT, which is near the Canadian border. Passed through Pawlet, VT. VT 153 from VT 30 looks nice and eventually takes you into Salem, NY.

I'm only familiar with the southern end of your plan, from Waterford to Fort Ann. A couple days ago when I tried to get on the start of the canal path at Hwy 32/US 4 Waterford the entrance was closed off, maybe temporarily for resurfacing. A northbound work-around on 32/4 is easy. A little further on at Stillwater a pleasant detour is possible. Cross the short bridge to the east side of the Hudson and pick up River Rd. just on the left.. This is a nicely surfaced and low trafficked farm road following the river northward that will join the published route on the east side north of Schuylerville. That will add no distance and avoids about 15 miles of US 4 truck traffic.
