Looking for Bike Rack Recommendation?

We are new to biking. We are wanting a bike rack to hold my bike(looking to get a step through and then my husbands bike. I realize a lot of racks are for the styles with the straight bar across... I have an SUV and wanted to get one that hooks into my hitch.

Thank you!!

Jen

Many of the racks which are of the type which attach to the hitch, have "trays" to hold the bikes by their wheels. They're nice because the bikes aren't held at crazy angles by a sloping tube.

I have a Saris rack which I really like: https://www.saris.com/product/freedom-2
The platform style racks are better suited for bikes that don't have a "straight" bar across. Until I got this bike rack, I needed a frame extender to hold my bikes (https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rac...ter-_-982xt999).

I like my tray Kuat NV 2.0. Tray hitch rack FTW. Holds my wife's e-bike hybrid and my road bike.

The 1UP is one of the top racks to purchase and I would have gotten one myself but the pandemic made them in short supply. The second rack on my list was the Kuat NV 2 but Kuat did not recommend it because of the baskets that I have on both bikes. The clamp has to be close to the head tube. As an alternative I purchased the Thule Helium. What I like about this rack is that it is light (hence the name) and is much easier to install on my car. It can handle a step-through frame with baskets so it was an easy choice.

Will either bike have fenders? What is your price range? How heavy will the bikes be (some racks are limited to 40 lbs. per bike and others go to 60 lbs. per bike)? Will you be removing the rack frequently (racks go from +/- 35 lbs. to +/- 55lbs)? Will either bike have fat tires (some racks are limited to 3" while others will allow and require 'fat bike' accessory wheel trays at an additional cost)?

You're getting a lot of recommendations, but they may not meet your needs.
