May have to buy some Red Bull, good on 'em!

Nah, I'll stick with good ol' caffeine for my daily energy "fix".

Red Bull is loaded with caffeine. Good ad--I'll take a Red Bull and skip the Bud Lite.

Smart marketing but not much else. I had to look up the price of a can since I never even considered buying one. Depends upon the size but a 12 ounce can at my nearby Von's grocery store is $2.79. If you compare the caffeine in a one cup serving it is 72 mg versus an average of 90 mg for one cup of home brewed coffee. It also contains one ounce, 6.5 teaspoons of sugar for your sugar high. That's 9% of the daily carbohydrates in a 2000 calorie diet. They throw in a little protein (1.1 gram as taurine) and a couple of vitamins. You are much better off taking a cheap multivitamin. Not many of us would think of adding 6 and a half teaspoon to our morning cup of coffee.

By the way, you get the same amount of carbohydrates in a 35 gram granola bar but at least some of it is complex carbohydrates that will stay with you for a time instead of assaulting your body with that much sugar.

A recent study found that the hightened mental state from coffee was the result of more than the caffeine. They had a control group that drank water with caffeine added and the respone in the brain as shown by MRI scans was less than for the group that had consumed coffee.

Not all that surprising as there is a tendency to want to extract a single component and then mass produce it and expect it to have the same effect as the more complex mix in the original food and it never does. Simple minded "scientists" thought that instead of cooked tomatoes one could consume lycopene extracted from them instead, and studies found that this assumption was not correct.
