Replacement Front Derailleur Recommendation 1980s Nishiki Intl (Orig SunTour)
Hello All.
This forum popped up first when I Google searched my Title question above - so I quickly signed up. Won't let me post pics since I'm new and haven't completed the requisite 10 posts but hopefully my description of issue is sufficient:
My road bike is 1982 Nishiki International with Original SunTour Cyclone front derailleur.
The "pivot" side of the clamp of he derailleur is broken.
Looking for a recommendation for an inexpensive replacement - via Amazon, etc..
I'm guessing I will be going the Shimano route, but haven't done this before and would like to hopefully nail this on the first try.

Check the "Microshift" brand. I assume yours is a 5 speed (number of rear cogs) and either 2 or 3 front chainrings with friction shift levers on the downtube? The R8 models will work for your bike and have both clamp on and braze on (has a bracket on the frame that the derailleur bolts on to) models and 2 or 3 chainring versions. Road Front Derailleurs | microSHIFT Do a search for best price. Microshift stuff is well priced and kind of med range quality, well built and functions well but a little heavier than the upper range $$$$ parts from the big mfrs.

I second getting a Cyclone FD off of eBay. It has been years, but I recall Suntour FD’s having a larger range than other FD’s of that era. Also a real workhorse.
Can’t speak for all Microshift, but I had a shifting issue on one, I think 538(?), with STI shifters and flat rings. Ended up using an old 105 FD.
