After some patience on EBay, a reasonable posting came up for a Benelux rear derailleur however on the cage, it states 3 to 4 gears. Would this derailleur still work with a 5 speed? I can’t imagine the throw on a derailleur between a 4 speed freewheel is any different than a 5 speed freewheel. Just narrower sprockets, right?

The 4 speed Benelux derailleur I have on my 1960 Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix does not work with the five speed freewheel I currently have on the bike….well it works, but only for four of the five cogs. My bike has its original derailleur and was originally equipped as a four speed. A previous owner put a five speed Regina freewheel on it and I’ve yet to swap it out. I think you’ll want the five speed version, or get a 4 speed freewheel.

Pcampeau Now that you say that, is it possible that this bike was supposed to be a 4 speed freewheel? Somewhere down the road the previous owner “upgraded” to five speed and tossed the original derailleur?
I’ll try to search around some more.

Pcampeau Thank you for the advice. Someone on this site generously sent me a Benelux. I have a couple parts coming in to get it running like new. A spring from Greece came in today. Replacing the old.
