That Rossin ad brings back memories, and still gets the mouth agape. The poor kid could only dream. That zipper fairing seemed so great at the time. I remember this issue well.

So cool. I love the articles and the ads. I was living on my sail boat in those days. My wife and I had rented out the condo and decided to park the cars , live on the boat , and ride bicycles. I had bought her a Raleigh Touring 14 and I was riding my Kabuki Diamond Formula. I was working at an aerospace factory and my wife was a bank teller. She could take her work clothes on the bike with her and change at work , even in the rain! I remember being at my friend’s bike shop and thumbing through these mags while he built his racing bikes. Great memories!

The girl on the cover looks cool and modern, but does every male model back then have to look like Robbie Benson??

As usual, thanks.

It was almost definitely in March, 1982 when I took my first rides on my current bike, the only one I've ridden since then. I built the wheels and attached everything to a used frame except the headset and BB. I loved the bike it replaced, but this was better still. (My then new, now current bike is a full DB 531 tube set from a boutique builder; it replaced a bike made from presumably plain gauge 531 frame tubes with ? forks and stays put together by a large production manufacturer during the bike boom.)

The cover reminds me that 1982 was the last time I was on a bike ride with my wife. 4-5 miles, 3 stops. Things other than bike riding keep us together....

Ah, 1982. The year I got into bicycle racing. Thanks so much for this.
If it's not too much to ask, it would be great to see the "Fit-Notes", "What? Exercise-Induced Hives?", and "Europe Calls Them The Classics" articles.

Interesting they were pulling in consumer advertising and Business to business also.

Note too that Medici had moved into Mario's old shop on Union Pacific Avenue

Very cool; would you mind posting the article on new freewheel designs from Japan? I suspect I'm still running a few of those "new" designs,

I look at that Rosin ad and still can't believe people raced on those things. And raced fast!

Sure. The Classics article is below.
Fit-Notes is a short article containing a selection of letters pertaining to an article in Bicycling Nov/Dec 1981 about exercise- and cold-induced asthma. I'll post it later with the article that prompted those letters.
I'll post the Exercise-induced Hives article in a day or two.

Once again you feed our nostalgia with these great articles and ads. I love the Cateye ad, and the article about Vitaly and cycling in the USSR was excellent. Please keep up your efforts!

Not saying slow, saying dangerous! (:

But seriously, those guys were amazing. I was re-watching Lemond in at 1989 worlds when people stormed downhill at 90 kph in the rain. Just amazing. I wonder if we will look back at todays riders in the same way.

My birth year. Thanks for reminding me I'm turning 40, I guess. Looking forward to seeing my birth month and year, Oct '82.

And finally, "Fit-Notes".
Fit-Notes" was reader commentary to the Nov/Dec 1981 Bicycling article "Asthma, Cold Weather, and Exercise".
I've posted the main article first followed by Fit-Notes.
