Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dura Ace C-50 wheelset

Considering several options to spruce up my Synapse. I'm confused about what I read about the Dura Ace C-50. I've read its a carbon wheelset with an aluminum brake track. I've read its carbon laminate over what I assume is an alloy wheelset. Which is it?

It uses carbon fairing with an alloy rim.

It's not so much an ally rim with a carbon fairing, like some lesser companies have put out, but a hybrid rim - the aluminium part wouldn't have enough strength to be a working rim without the carbon reinforcement. It's mostly just a couple of brake tracks and a tyre well.

Oh, and the rims are laced to the best hubs in the business by a mile.

Lovely wheels. The C25 rims weigh 365g, IIRC. But AFAIK, they haven't got with the times and started making wider versions yet... I guess the tooling was super expensive and they want to milk it.

... Although, the spokes are a bit on the beefy side - relace them with CX-Rays for the win.
