Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When it's 9 degrees on the computer and blowing 25MPH it's going to be a hard ride. I need to invest in more riding clothing, I did the ride with shorts on and my two sizes too large soccer jacket

I learned that proper cycling shorts are a real taint-saver!

That using my inhaler really helps. I gained 2 mph and it was in a 10mph head/crosswind.

I (re)learned to watch out for innattentive drivers. Nearly run over this afternoon by driver making an illegal u-turn right in front of me.

having a wasp smack into your leg during a 41mph descent makes for an angry wasp on your leg without much you can do about it.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch Clif Bars are tasty but give me horrible, uncontrollable gas. Ride partners are not amused! Also, consuming 120 oz of Cytomax Tangy Orange in 4 hours makes my pee turn orange.

An organic, grass-fed, locally raised, free-range bison burger, a huge helping of fries, and a ton of sweet tea isn't the thing to eat when you have 10 miles of climbing ahead of you.

That, compounded with asthma means I had to SAG out at 40 miles.

The RAVX co2 inflator sucks bad. Brand new it blew up in my hand with a sound like a .38 going off, left me stranded.

That young kids on bikes like to play chicken. Second time this year, both times looked like preteens.

What a ground-hog actually looks like in real life (in my FL years, I don't think I ever actually saw one) AND what a 250lb (easily) woman in tights & a sport bra looks like doing yoga with a bench next to the bike path.

That people turning right on red do not look to their right before turning...and installing your rear light upside down and being too lazy to fix it will result in it falling off halfway through the ride and scaring the sh*t out of you...

That a pissed off Saint Bernard is a ugly thing when he's standing in the middle of the road, head down and growling while waiting for you to get closer, at least I'm going downhill at his house.
This a long standing fued between him and me, I changed my route because of him, reversed that section to be able to downhill when we meet, he almost got me today, I about crashed dodging him this morning.

It is useless trying to beat your pro friend in a town line sprint when you are and will most likely always be a Fred.

Are you sure that the valve was open? I blew my inflator up one time but it was my fault.
