I boxed my stock wheelset from my CAAD8 2 weeks ago when i installed my Vuelta Corsa HD wheelset with the Vittoria Zaffiro's in 25 size up from 23 on the stockers and it rides better, well it feels more solid, less twitchy...I know the Vuelta's are low end but was a upgrade compared to the stock wheels that btoke 2 spokes before i hit the 300 mile mark...My LBS fixed them and now are in a box for spare use...I paid $150 for the set from Nashbar so i didn't loose too much it they go south on me...I am gonna test ride a Synapse or something with that Geometry in the next months...Hell it may be that i buy a frame with that Geo and build it up. But i prolly will buy whole as i am not sure about building one yet...I might even save up and get it from Bikes Direct, Nashbar or Performance bike...I like the Scattante...Seems like a lot of bank for the buck...I like the LBS support but if i can feel confident about working on it myself i can tackle a lot...Heel i bought a Harley 7 years ago and the the dealer or local shops were gonna chaqrge me like $1300 to change the cams, i bought a manual, needed tools, Cams and gaskets and went at it...$350 later and Voila...I know it;s different animal but in the end it's just a machine that needs to be tuned right, only difference on a bike is the motor is MOODY...LOL/...

Bad idea because for $2500 or slightly more you can get a new carbon bike with an Ultegra groupset. For example, the 2014 Trek Madone 4.7's (11 speed and 100% Ultegra components) are going for $3100 or less. We just bought one a week ago for $2999. But there are lots of 2013's selling in your price range. And yeah keep your bike. My wife keeps her first bike on the trainer all the time so it's our dedicated trainer bike. It's also good to have one as a backup or loaner.

I test rode both (20 miles on each) and I noticed zero performance or comfort difference. At almost $1000 in savings the 4.5 carbon was my final decision and if I wanted to I could spend that $1000 on ride components (better helmet, nicer wheel set, GPS unit, etc.).

Since I first asked the question I've read all of your responses and have done a fair amount of research and realized what a bad idea it is to upgrade a so so frame.
I've decided to save for a Cervelo R3 with a 105 or Ultegra set. From reading countless reviews and comparisons, it seems like there is no better bike for what I want to do.
Thanks!

Those R3's look sweet. I've been thinking about one myself. If you get one let me know what you think. If you can, save up for the Ultegra. That way it'll prolong or eliminate the desire for an upgrade anytime soon. One of my local shops is selling the Ultegra build for $3500 which is still pretty pricey but down from the original $3900. Good choice and good luck.

I just picked up a brand new 2013 Trek Madone 4.5. Carbon frame with an ultegra/105 mix for 2000. For what it's worth.
