Wearing pro teams names?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wearing pro teams names?

What are some of your opinions on wearing pro teams clothing when you ride? For example, wearing a full set of BMC (Jersey and shorts)when you go out on your journeys. I like the style of some of the pro teams clothing but the same time I would feel like a "Fan Boy" if I was to wear their name. You guys know what I mean? Or is it the same thing as wearing a Red sox, Patriots, (ect)jerseys

I never liked wearing gear with pro team logos although I use cycling caps with the names of now defunct teams.

what's wrong with being a fan boy of a pro team? there would be a lot more money in the sport if merchandising was as good as in other sports.

Like. I don't wear team kits but I am more and more open to it every day. I wear KOM jersey and Yellow jersey for fun though.

To each their own, but I don't wear clothing with any kind of prominent insignias. The pro teams generally carry the name of their corporate sponsors, and I'm not a human billboard for those organizations. If they offered to pay me, I might think of it differently, but when did it become a good idea to pay others to be their advertising agent?

I don't worry about what others think about me wearing a team kit as long as I don't look like a stuffed sausage in it. It's also a way of supporting them. Why would I worry about it? Life is too short... Go ride and enjoy your kit.

No. 1. I like wearing jerseys with the logos of local bike shops and local bike clubs, though. I like drinking micro brews as well esp. if they're brewed locally.

I have a good friend and riding partner who says almost this exact thing. I don't get it. What do I care? I'm going to be wearing a kit anyway, so if I like branded kit and I don't have to pay a huge premium, I wear kits with logos. I don't expect to be paid for it. Who am I to suggest that I be paid for wearing something I'm going to wear anyway, unless I'm a celebrity.

I dont wear wear pro team kits because they're usually much more expensive, but I wear branded kit when I like the look, as long as it's not some organization with whose principles I disagree.

But, as you said, to each his own.

They are, I don't , I just find them silly. I like bright solid color jerseys and black shorts with no insignias.

I don't imagine that my endorsement means anything or that I have any fame (I don't), but the folks in charge of marketing various brands sure are happy when their name gets out there so people can see it. At least they could give a discount ?

I definitely don't cover over the brand insignias on my bikes and I tolerate those curvy "P"s on my Pearl Izumi jerseys and shorts (Or "Novarra" insignias, or whatever). These days you'd have to be a complete fanatic to expunge all corporate logos from your bike equipment/clothes. But I do avoid clothes that shout brand names.

I have plenty of riding buddies who wear lots of team or branded stuff - and yeah, LBSs and microbreweries are pretty common choices.

This is my fifth year on a local sponsored team, so I wear a kit with lots of sponsors represented. I guess I've become conditioned to it. I like the loud kits.

I'd wear a pro jersey if I was a spectator of a race that team was in. As far as cycling in one though, I would never.

As for associating it to sports teams-- who wears a 49ers jersey to the park with their buddies, or a red socks jersey to the local diamond for some saturday ball, or a Lakers jersey to the local pickup game? Sports fans don't usually play sports in pro sport gear. It's wearing a badge of honor that wasn't earned.

I do support the whole "don't mind what other people think" mantra, but I'd add that I, and many other people, can almost never take someone in a pro kit seriously.

Edit: Also, like I said, it's not that you can't, but just go buy a sweet Castelli kit instead. Not only will you look better, regardless if that is your goal, but you'll likely be more comfortable as well (most fake consumer pro kits are poorly made in china).

Jersey would be okay. Full team kit is pretty corny. I have a collection of bicycle shop jerseys from around the country that I wear.

All I can say is that, if you show up in a group ride wearing a full kit, you better take a damn pull at the front.

There was a guy who wore a full QuickStep kit on my ride yesterday and he was strong and took pulls.

Going back to the thread, I own these (just jerseys):

My opinion only; never wear to a race. Jersey only on training rides; whole kit makes one look like a poseur.
