First Vintage: Miyata One Ten 12 speed

Picked up my first semi vintage bike, a 1980's Miyata One Ten 12 speed.
My riding partner rides a Miyata 710 and I was looking for something similar.
I happened across a One Ten that I had fully tuned.

Has almost all original parts except the saddle and rear rim which had to be replaced. It's the original rear hub just had a new rim laced to it. Everything else is still the original parts. Repacked front and back hubs and the crank and general maintenance.

Took her for a 20 mile ride today and does she ever run smooth.

I will take better pictures when I can.
All I have right now is my cellphone camera

NICE one. It is like your partners in many ways. Your 1986 had parts not found on earlier 110s but similar to the 710s ... anyway it's a fine bike. GREAT COLOR !
4 310s ; 2 710s; Ti, some lady's , 2 hybrids etc.

This bicycle is an excellent introduction to vintage bicycles. Miyata are very well designed and constructed. Despite being an entry level model, this gives away suprisingly little to a model 710. In fact, depending on the exact vintage of your friend's 710, the 110 may actually be slightly lighter and have better forks. Of course the one thing that the 710 does have is slightly shorter and more upright geometry, making for a quicker handling and responding bicycle. Conversely your 110, will be slightly more stable and comfortable riding.

Component wise, everything on the 110 is a step or two down on the 710, but it's also more modern and not necessarily worse. One feature you have that he doesn't, unless he made an upgrade, is indexed shifting. If you want to take your shifting to the next level, you can install a HyperGilde freewheel. These greatly improve shifting, particularly under load.

I think its funny that the Miyata has almost a cult following online.
She went out for a ride today about 35km but had the saddle come loose and realized I had no tools with me.

Some what an uncomfortable ride home but other then a mistake of not tightening the saddle enough she rides like a dream and I can be very quick on it.

This one is close to the weight of my friends 710 but still just a bit heavier.
His is all original parts as well other then pedals which broke 2 weeks ago.

I noticed right away that mine seems much more stable even though it has thinner tires so I was completely at home as soon as I jumped on. The gearing is just amazing and have yet to have problems shifting. On my ride today I got to use every gear on both cassettes.

I think I am in love

Took her out on a 105km ride today and did she ever preform well.
No complaints from the bike what so ever.
Just kept going and going and going.

Congrats on joining the miyata club
My son has been riding my 110sp for the past year. He seems to like it so much that I may not get it back.
The only knock I have about it is the lack of braze-ons for water bottle cages.
