I have been looking for an inexpensive base layer top. Being 5'9" and 130 pounds I have been having difficulty finding one around 25 dollars since I am unemployed. It doesnt help that a small isnt a small in mens. What do you thin cyclists do?

I was just now surfing around looking for this very item. I came across a huge sale at Primal Wear Outlet. Since it is a base, it shouldn't matter what's on it, and the Air Force and Navy long sleeve and short sleeve bases are $9.95. Go get 'em.

Getting me a base there. Thanks for the tip. But, yeah, I think I'll only get a base layer. The other stuff is just ugly as hell, and I usually don't even care about that.

Edit: actually, didn't order. Wasn't expecting $10 in shipping on one item, and didn't really like the thing that much. Seriously, though. $10 shipping?

i personally love the tight under armour heat gear short sleeve or long sleeve. size small should do the trick for you and it has an msrp of 24.99. does a great job keeping you dry in any condition. i used it for several years for baseball and am using it for cycling and its been great.

I bought 2 Tresspass Porter base layers from Costco - came to £10 each for a top and bottoms. The small male size works for me - I am very slim and average height. They also work well - keep me nice and warm!

I use the Under Armor- like stuff. I have found it to be quite good. Wally World has the Starter brand about $10. Targe't has the Champion C9 brand. This one is $10 to $17 depending on the thickness of material.

PBK had some Craft Pro Zero's for about $23 a couple weeks ago. I think they'll get some more in soon. I like 'em.

The base layer at wal-mart is like 9 bucks for tops and 9 for the bottoms. Works great. They have thicker bottoms as well that you can use as a bicycle tight. My oldest ones are over a year old. If their small is too big for you then you must have the body of a 10 year old boy. I do use their small and I am 150 lbs

Depends on what the base layer is for. I wear none at temperature above 60-62 degrees, but as winter approaches, I need something more for warmth below 60 degrees. I just put on a cheap men's undershirt, usually a V-neck tee made to wear under a dress shirt. The material is just a cotton-poly blend, not some high tech wicking material, but I find it adequate. When it gets colder I eventually switch to a long sleeve base layer, intended for cycling.

I spent a fair amount of cash on base layers that did not make me comfortable. So I ended up buying other cheap brands to compensate.. So if you want to save cash , don't go cheap.. that route will just fill your drawer with unused gear, when you go out on the bike and shiver.. I'd saved cash had I bought my UnderArmour from the get go.

Kohls has addidas base layers for around $20.
Target has champion base layers for around a tad less than that.
Addidas runs small like it should. Champion runs large. I would get a size smaller if you go for this option.
The addidas works wonderfully and the Champion is adequate.

Don't be a doosh bag he said he was unemployed. Anyway the Walmart version works for me even thought I have expensive base layers from my cross country skiing race days, they really aren't that much different, the wicking action is the same. If you ride everyday, you'd like more than one set of base layers. And if Walmart is beneath you, you can also go to Marshall's or TJ Max where they have closeouts on Craft or something more "properly" branded base layers. You may not find a small though.

About the reference to a boy's body, the reason I like the Walmart version is that they are really tight on the skin but still stretchy and it doesn't take much of a belly fat to make you look ridiculous which is strange for Walmart since they cater to the average chubby/fat American. Your 130 lb frame will fit on them well.

I think I either bought a baselayer from Target or Walmart. I actually bought a boy's XL because it was cheaper and fit a bit more snug.

I've mentioned it before, but I find Target's Champion stuff cheap & of decent quality, not great, decent. It's what I use...

I've gone through the cheap stuff and while it worked reasonably well it didn't last that long. I now use the Under Armour cold gear for the winter and heat gear for the spring/summer and I really like their gear, not to mention the fact it's been pretty durable.

REI.com has a pretty good thin poly baselayer for about $29 everyday price, it's the house brand, forget what it's called.

Many of the big Universities have a store where they sell stuff like UnderArmour. Workers get discounts. That's one way to get it cheaper. Its near the Christmas holidays, so I expect some sale going on.

Any knock-off Under Armor long sleeve should do; I've gotten mine for around $10-15. And being unemployed (as am I, I feel for you) you're probably going to want to actually grab one in a store rather than pay for shipping. Kohls, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Target, Walmart...bunch of stores that have good stuff real cheap.

Jorge. I purchased mostly K Mart kind of stuff before My UnderArmour. maybe I'd had better luck with REI products ?..... But, for effectiveness, I like UnderArmour.. Nothing like wearing your summer gear when it's freezing outside..
Have not been a Summer UnderArmour convert.. Just seems unnecessary, but if you have not tried it.---?

A regular cycling jersey makes an adequate base layer. As long as it's a wicking fabric you should be fine.
