1986 Schwinn Prelude retro-mod New powder coat?

I've had this bike in various iterations for the last 6 years or so. I bought it second hand in decent condition (with the exception of a sloppy rattlecan job) for $125 and rode it a little bit with the original components. I never cared much for down tube shifters and the 27" wheels were like bricks. I hit the parts bin and swapped in a more modern drive train; a mismatch collection of Ultegra 9 speed shifters, a Deore rear derailleur, a wide range cassette and a forgotten brand of crank. I also had a spare set of lighter wheels that I threw into the project. It's been in that configuration for years now and has been one of my favorite bikes. The 27" to 700 swap allows for wider tires (these are panaracer paselas in 32 width and I have even jammed 35 semi knobbed tires in there) and allows me to ride almost any surface. I love to take this on dirt/gravel roads and the C&O towpath but I also ride it in place of my cf bike and I can hold my own! I've been complaining about the paint job and my lovely wife just gave me a new powder coat for Christmas (aka signed off on me getting it done!). Thinking of going with red or black powder coat and white period correct decals. What color would you do???

Nice job! I also use a combination of wide gearing, Deore and 600 components, and wider tires on my bikes. It makes for a versatile and sporty ride.

I would stick with white, very classic.

I like the current color scheme, but red would look sharp if you really want to switch it up.

I like Preludes so I clicked on picture 1 to expand it. Nothing happened. Clicked on picture 2. Worked ok. Went back to picture 1 and clicked a couple of more times. Again, nothing. Then I noticed that picture one is document.pdf. Each time I clicked it, it was downloaded to my hard drive. I had to go to my default download directory and delete those documents.

Please delete picture one or change it to an image. BIG problems can result when documents are unintentionally downloaded to one's computer!

Nice bike.

If my computer turns into a frog due to something hidden on your document I'll bu sure to let you know.

You can resize jpg images using Resize2Mail, a free on-line image resizing utility that's easy to use. For BikeForums, resizing to ~800x600 pixels seems to be a good compromise.

Another exercise in the fact that everybody's got their own idea. I've always thought that if you're going to go through the trouble of a refinish, why make it like everyone else's? Vintage bikes that are mint originals, rare or unique notwothsatanding, I'd have your powdercoater scrollover to ColumbiaCoatings.com. Their Chameleon colors are pretty wild, and go on thin enough for lugged frames. Their "Dormant" colors are fantastic as well, but go on thicker. Still great for lugless frames like the purple example below.

Those are pretty nice. They are getting some neat effects out of powder coats these days.

I've always liked white bikes but I've never had a red bike. Like white seats and bar tape with white decals. There is a nice red paramount with white tape and seat and it looks pretty sharp. I've also seen the black circuit from the mid '80s that looks pretty sharp.
