Unusual. Never seen them before. Does anyone know anything about them, their vintage etc?

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
They were produced from 1975 until 1977 and were a little step up over Shimano's existing groups but still not of the caliber of the later 600 series parts.

They were the touring crank, Shimano's other alternatives had a BCD that would not allow the small rings this set did, but curiously, that aspect was rarely exploited at least in the USA market.

These cranks were actually introduced for the 1976 model year. The original 600 series was concieved primarily as a touring group to complement the Dura-Ace racing group. As such the cranks were designed for a 30T low gear. They have an odd, 95mm BCD. In 1978 Shimano decided to bring out a new version of 6oo, called 600EX, which was a less expensive version of Dura-Ace aimed at the mid-range sports/racing market. However, Shimano continued to offer the original, touring oriented 600 group and even expanded it, by offering a triple version of the crankset in question. The 600 touring group and 600EX sports/racing group would be produced concurrently into the early 1980s.
