MTB’s with front rack mounts
I would like to get another vintage steel MTB for touring and commuting. My favorites are the late 80’s-early 90’s frames: earlier than that the geometry is too slack, later than that it’s hard to find rigid steel. Also, I want a frame with brazed-on rack mounts on the fork. My 1990 Diamondback Apex fits this description, and I guess I could just get another one, but I would like to widen the search if possible and maybe try a different bike. What other MTB’s had fork rack mounts?

Just to clarify, are you talking about rack mounts near the fork ends, or mid-fork?
1988 Miyata Valley runner has two brazeons at the dropout, but not mid-fork. Great commuter.

At one point I wanted a similar thing as I became obsessed with the idea that a front basket would be great on my commute so I could keep an eye on the things I brought (or forgot to bring). I had lost tilhings like jackets, loaves of bread, etc, on the ride home from them bouncing or blowing out of the grocery pannier.
Well, a threadless headset makes it easy to swap forks. I found a Salsa Fargo fork on eBay that did the trick.

Must be symmetrical
Get the frame you want and swap the fork. If you have an early 1 1/8 fram and don't mind going threadless, the sky's the limit.

I've got a Sherpa Dorado frame and fork with mid-blade mounts. Not a ton of examples online, but it has rear u-brake mounts under the chainstay so I'd guess it's an 87 or thereabouts; although the spring fixing holes on the fork's cantilever posts are mounted outboard, which usually indicates an earlier 80s frame.
There's also a Nishiki Cascade on ebay right now with mid-blade mounts.
