How do you keep your head dry in the rain?

I'm looking into some eVent and other cycling jackets in general. Most of them come without a hood. So the jacket keep your body dry, but no hood to go under or over the helmet to keep the head dry. So do people just let the rain go through the venting holes of their helmet and soak their head/hair wet?

I don't. Why would I care if my head gets wet?

I do have a rain cap that I put over my helmet, but in general I only use it in the winter for warmth. In the summer I just let the rain trickle in. Water doesn't actually hurt.

If it were cold it would be a different thing. If that's what you're asking, yes, I put the rain cap on. I got mine from J&G but a shower cap or even just duct taping up the vents would work just as well.

I've got a waterproof helmet cover, but I only use it when it's cold. It's like wearing a heater on your head. It doesn't even keep my head dry on dry days. It does keep it warm though.

So, to answer your question, I just let my head get wet.

I rode my bike today for an hour and a half to get to work.
Lite rain, it just goes thru the vents of my helmet and doesn't
really bother me that much. Maybe you can try this:

Sure, if you're bald, who cares about a wet head. If your hair is longer, a hood works great!
The hood keeps the rain from running down your neck/back. They're pretty nice. The longer ones go right over the top of the helmet. Looks like thise give a little more ventilation.

I saw a helmet cover at the bike store that looked handy. The back of the cover was long enough to hang over the neck of a jacket to keep
rain from funneling down inside.

I don't bother with a cover or hood in the rain. I'll dry off at my destination.

Actually I found a helmet to be quite useful to keep my head pretty dry. Most importantly it keeps the rain out of my face (no dripping down my face). A skull cap is very useful when it's still colder outside.

If it's actually cold and raining out, I wear a balaclava under my helmet. A scull cap would work too. For some reason, I arrive drier this way. The balaclava gets wet, but I don't particularly.

A 'clava under a helmet always works for me. I tried a hood, I found pretty quickly that it cuts into my peripheral vision, dangerously so.

A skull cap that is mildly water-proof/windproof/fleecy if it is cold windy rain, otherwise pack a quick dry towel.

Otherwise you're going to wear a helmet cover and that won't help with long hair really. You could just locate a helmet without vents.

I have a J & G helmet cover that I use if it's cold. In warm weather I don't care. I ride with a guy who has a "winter helmet". He put clear packing tape over the vent holes. It works fine, and looks better than duct tape.

I typically ride sans helmet, but I've encountered that problem. One thing that worked for me was going with a wool baseball cap under the helmet, using slimmer helmet pads or none at all if necessary. The brim of the ball cap helps keep the hood from infringing on your face, helmet or no. Drawback being when you're down in the drops, forward vision can be impaired a bit.

A good polypro skullcap or balaclava can be nice.

In the warm weather I normally don't, since I change at work. I got a rain jacket with a hood (not cycling specific) in the event that I need to go someplace and arrive dressed in street cloths. I haven't had a chance to try it out, as I got it for my birthday in February. We haven't had much liquid precipitation since then.

Bingo! I can't stand the tunnel vision of a hood.

Does anyone really have a problem with rain running down your back?

I totally accept the hair thing as a concern for some. Perhaps my lack of a mongo thick head of hair is saving me from funneling buckets of water down my back? I thought it was just cramping my look. Perhaps water runs down a pony tail?

I use the shower cap / helmet cover thing when it is cold, just get wet when it is not. If I wear a rain jacket, too, the little stand up collar is fine and nothing to speak of comes in around the neck.

I'm about bald so I don't worry about it. If I am I have another device that fixes it right up.

It's called a "car"

I wear a Mt Bike style helmet for the visor. Rain cover over that keeps my glasses reasonably dry. Water runs off it and down the back of the jacket. Never had a problem with it getting under the collar. Summer I do the same to keep my glasses dry but I roll the back up trying to keep as many vents uncovered as possible.

I have very long hair & during warmer weather I do nothing in fact I prefer rain on warm days. I usually put it in a tail and ride in. I have a hair dryer at work & anything else I need to be presentable for the day. Colder weather I just shower cap the helmet & suckitup. I love the rain rides in the summer heat. I also use RainX on my glasses

Showers Pass offers a hood that attaches to many of their jackets (and fits under a helmet). It's perhaps the only hood that I have used that does not interfere with my vision. Of course, at this time of year, I still have the packing tape covering the vents in my helmet -- so keeping rain off my head isn't much of an issue.

If it's a cold rain, I use a helmet cover. As others noted, though, it's like wearing a heater on your head. Which isn't a bad thing at all when it's 38F and raining.

In a warm rain, I don't care if my head gets wet.

During most of the year you get to choose sweat or rain. I choose rain. Incidentally, this goes for most "waterproof" clothing.
