Schwinn "Sid" basement find
Hi All,
I recently moved and this old Schwinn Sid townie bike was abandoned in my new place's basement. I have asked the previous tenant if they want it back and they said no, and since I don't need or want the bike I'm looking to find out what it's worth. It seems to be in good shape other that needing new tubes and having some surface rust on the chrome bits. Anyone here familiar with these and know what a fair asking price might be?

That isn't an old Schwinn, it's a new one! Around 15 years old max.
Looks pretty nice except for the custom rattle-can paint on some bits. If there isn't some "cult" following (it was from the Schwinn Sid/Nancy series) maybe ask $200 for starters.

Thanks for the reply. I'm a bit ashamed to admit I didn't do much googling about the bike - I saw that frame and stem and just assumed it was an old 70s era bike. Interesting to learn it's an aluminum replica.

A really nice "townie" bike, if you ask me, as long as it's tuned/maintained properly.
Which gives it some value, if sold to the right person.
The Schwinn branding and conservative looks might also make it less noticeable to the typical bike theif.....
Which makes it more desirable tor prople looking for a daily commuter.
It looks to be in pretty good condition..... I would ask for at least $250,...and see if you can keep it just above or right at $200.

I think you’ll have a tough time getting market value with the blue paint on it. Will need some acetone elbow grease to get rid of it and make it presentable.

I've worked on a few of these. The automatic shifter did perform the way it's supposed to., though it could be disconcerting when you weren't controling the shift point and it shifted unexpectedly. Bicycles with this transmission weren't very popular and I expect this will be a hard sell and go for far less than the suggested price.
