Sorry, I was distracted by the overall build! Thanks. I have a 1990 Master (Gilco of course), it's a great ride for me and my size/weight. 6', 165lbs. I love my Colnago. Great bikes.

I missed this first time through. Gorgeous bike and nicely built! I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. I have a first generation C40 and have long wanted a Master to compare the rides.
There is a late 80’s Master Piu in my size on my local CL. I looked at it once, it’s very beat up and will need a lot of TLC and probably a repaint. I decided to go for it but seller, who gave a flaky vibe at first meet, proved me right and no showed for our second meet up after I moved heaven and earth to be there on time. I gave up on a try at a third meet.

2016 Master Arabesque. I’m still working on cleaning and assembly. Pic by previous owner, via Cycling Tips.
1985 Master under construction.
It was horrible with 9-speed DA & Zipps. Hoping this incarnation comes together with more manners.
I have an ‘03 Master Extra Light (Art Decor) and it was my campaign bike last year. Mountains, endurance, shootouts, it ran well with a 53/39 and 11-34 on DA9000.
Also have a Super, ‘85. And a carbon 2016. They are kind of addictive.
I’d love a C40 in Mapei, but those things are crazy expensive. Many collectors have several of the Mapei versions, and think nothing of $2000 repaints. Not my arena.

I bought mine new in 2008, built with Campy Athena 11 speed. 19 lbs as shown with no carbon parts.

After a 14 month wait, my 56cm Colnago Master has arrived from Italy! Too hard to resist a brand new steel lugged frame from such a storied marque.
I was told that these are not in high demand, so perhaps it is only a matter of time before these are no longer produced.
I posted this in the C+V section because we appreciate this kind of stuff.

I noticed that a lot of these retro steel modern bikes never ever seem to bring back the curved fork legs. Are curved fork legs just bad and not worth remaking??

I suppose that may be good practical advice, but contrary to many stories I've heard about "Italian chrome" over the years, my experience has not matched the negative stereotype. Just make sure to keep it clean, dry, and wipe off any post-ride sweat - no problems.
A tiny bit of patina is all that marks the chrome of my '83 Colnago - and we need an extreme close-up in order to see it:

Colnago's fork just made a lot of friends, and maybe they're just easier to produce.
I have a spare Colnago carbon fork, and it's straight, too. Go figure.
I swapped it for steel because of the raccoon thing (I like shiny objects).
The geometry between their curved forks and their straight forks is pretty much the same, so go figure.

The forks on my 2020 Master have large diameter blades, that are more "round" than oval (in the conventional sense), very track bike-ish. They feel super stiff when underway. I have quite a few vintage bikes to compare them to, so my perception is more objective in my opinion.
ETA- If I replaced my forks with carbon, the ride would be incredible. I just can't muster the courage to go away from the lovely chrome forks though.

You'll have a hard time finding a modern carbon fiber fork with a 1 inch steerer
I've had a couple of Masters with Flash carbon fiber forks and didn't really notice a huge difference in the ride

The Colnago is likely too short for any Colnago I have, because I like a '17 stem on level top tube bikes.
The bike is still pretty light, and the fork looks great against the lugs.

but think of the logistic savings.
one might be able to state that the blades if of air hardened steel- much easier to keep them straight. Not sure at all if they are.
with the weights mentioned in this thread, if air hardened, not of any thinner wall.
