Batavus Mixte Tourist
Hello everyone. I was checking out yard sales when I came upon this beauty. I'm a huge bike noob so I haven't the slightest clue about its value but it looks cool! From existing threads I see it's missing the front and rear lights but I'm not sure if they're worth getting... or where to look. I did clean it up as per the recommendations on another thread and replaced a wee screw that pinches one of the shift cables.
Anyway, in summary I was hoping someone could give me a ballpark figure on how much it's worth in this condition and whether or not I should bother getting the lights. Thanks in advance.

Still learning
Looks nice and clean, though the wheels are steel and the components are pretty basic. It is a pretty typical mid 1970's Bike Boom mixte setup. The fenders make the bike stand out.
Not too many people search for a Batavus, but if you live near a major university or in an urban area that has been gentrified, you could get $140-$175 IMHO, plus 20% in NYC.
In the rest of the USA, $125-$150.

Welcome to the forums. Great looking Batavus! I agree with Oddjob it seems a pretty basic model but should make for reliable transport. Does it have light brackets somewhere? I would not worry about getting lights that may have been original but if you intend to ride at night get a good quality rechargeable neon headlight and LED rear flasher.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the tips and appraisals. This is my first non wal mart type of bike so I'm really excited about learning about it. Cool stuff, thanks again!

That is, if you still have the original wheels. If you're in the US or UK they may have been replaced by 27", or 630mm. Be aware that there is also a 28" tire around (28 x 1 1/2) that measures 635mm.
As for the width, the OEM tire would probably have been a 28mm (28-622).
Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply .... what i have is the frame and the fork only ... it is color orange bright .. though the markings were fading , the tube notch and quality of work is still evident and classic. I 've tried to install a 26" wheel but the problem is the brake is short to the wheel rims... thanks again .. btw i am writing from the philippines

The forum had a thread on a cream puff example of the gents version of this cycle from about the same time. Different gear ensemble but otherwise very close:

Interesting that a Batavus should end up in the Philippines. Probably came along with an expat or such.

Batavus Vintage Mixte
Cool post! Made me want to share this - some before and after pictures. I bought a vintage Batavus 1972 Mixte Tourist Frame on Ebay. Made a new bike. Added an internal 7 speed Shimano Alfine hub and Shimano Alfine cranks; chopped down some long crusier bars, shortened brake handles, added brooks seat and grips; Velo orange front rack and a vintage feeling rear light. Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this. It is a really fun and comfortable ride for up and down the lakefront. I am calling this the Monkey Bike and that is my "brand" that I created for fun.
