Surly Cross Check + Deep V's: What Hubs and spokes?

I have a Surly Cross Check for commuting, training, and occasional loaded touring and I got Velocity Deep V Rims. I'm looking for hubs and spokes to build up the wheelset so that they will be as bombproof as the frame and rims. I want a bike that I can ride hard in any condition and not have to worry about breaking spokes or cracked rims, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Phil wood hubs are said to be the best. I'm looking to buy a set soon.

I love my surly hubs with matching black DT swiss spokes. Phil Woods and White Industries are nicer perhaps, but I cannot complain. I ride them "full time" to work without any concerns.

If you are on a budget, go with ultegra hubs. If all out, Phils. Go with DT swiss spokes

I've found Shimano XT hubs all but indestructable on my commuter. I have 12,000 miles on the current set with only the occasional bearing grease & adjustment. Good value for the money.

There's a good thread on the Mechanics forum on hubs for Clydes. Sheldon, as usual, offers his wisdom:

Pay for quality spokes, but sounds like any Shimano hub would do the trick.

Since the CC can take a 135mm hub, I'd go with an XT variant

Mavic CXP33 and Phil

If you're doing loaded touring you might want to think about a Sun Rhyno or CR18

48 spokes may be a little overkill, but I'm pretty confident I'll never wear these wheels out.
