1978 TREK TX500 Ishiwata .022 Frame & Fork
This would be the 22 1/2" frame per Trek's 1978 catalog.
With frame, and tape in hand, measuring center to center:
Top tube - 56 cm
Seat tube - 55.5 cm
-- -- --
Important note: This sale DOES NOT include a headset. The headset shown in the photos is for display purposes only. I repeat, no headset will be included with the sale of this frame, and fork.
Drop out screws, chromoly seat post binder bolt, and Suntour downtube cable guide are included as shown.
Frame, and fork both exhibit signs of extensive road use as indicated by normal paint wear, faded stickers, and oxidation consistent with a decades old daily rider. Both do present as straight, and structurally sound however.
-- -- --
Will ship to CONUS only via shipbikes dot com which should run between $23 to $42 for standard insured no signiture required delivery.
You may request higher insured signiture required delivery option for an additional $4.80 if you wish.
-- -- --
Because I am not having any luck sourcing a free box large enough to ship with, I'll have to purchase one from a shipping supplier, and am including that $15 cost in the asking price:
$145 plus actual shipping
LABOR DAY SPECIAL:
$125 plus actual shipping SOLD
PayPal only. Friends and family preferred, or add 3% for Goods and Services.

This is a spectacular bike. I own and ride extensively a 1979 Trek 510, also full Ishiwata 022 frame tubing and low temp silver brazed. This is a classic, handbuilt sports touring bike from the golden era of Trek bikes. It is one of the best handling bikes that I own. Throw a triple on it and you have a bike you can ride all day in any kind of terrain.

I always enjoy seeing picture of your 510. I agree that this is a great era for Treks. I had really hoped that this frame was going to work out for me, but it n the end I just couldn't get comfortable with the 56cm top tube. It has me just a tad too stretched out. Still, I managed to enjoy it as yet one more example of C&V passing through my hands.
Here's how I had it built up:

if it was too short for you I was going to offer a trade. Pretty frame.

I don't like a stem shorter than the one I shown here. Steering feels funny to me with too short of a stem. The frame is just outside my fit enough to justify keeping. Thank you for the consideration though.
