Looking at pictures like this, I can see why gravel is becoming so popular.
No cars, beautiful vistas.

I noticed USACycling results from 2007-2017 disappeared from junior's account. Other riders have missing blocks and odd sorts.

That first race is an important one as junior was racing age 9 at a time there were no racing age 9s. The computer just gave him a license. Later, USAC and I had a discussion about it and they decided to allow him to race - except he would not win any state RR jersey (OK - like he's 8 and there are 12 year olds in it). That allowed him to say he had been racing longer than any junior.

I did that race @Flatballer. The views are incredible, but that climb is a ***** and a half.

I'm glad nobody at work is a serious cyclist, because the bar wrap job I finished at 1 AM should land me in jail.

Out running errands with the kids. It's 102 with a heat index of 132. They're overheating just being in the car and walking into stores. It's brutal out.

Supposed to get over 100 here next week but it's been really nice so far. Last July was our hottest on record, over 100 every day and hot at night, too.
Yesterday I did my first century in ages and it was quite nice all day.

Junior is sick, so rather than race Manhattan Beach GP today - showing up to be a fan. I wish we had as many fans as cyclists.

After toying around with various real estate options we decided to pull up stakes and move full time to our house at the base of Whiteface. Wife is going to get an apartment with our kid that she'll stay in a couple of days a week when she needs to be down in her office. It'll be a slow burn until we get up there next year, but we started triaging belongings. It'll be interesting to re-grab a hold of my identity as a new yorker.

We have so much stuff, and I really want to live a more minimal lifestyle. My wife and I were talking a few weeks ago about getting rid of all the fancy china we got for wedding gifts, as well as our giant Kitchen Aid stand mixer, which seemed really cool when we registered for it but has probably only been used a dozen times in the 14 years we've had it.

I feel you. My wife has 3 Christmas sets of dishes. Only one year we've used a set, and unfortunately those aren't something she's willing to part with. We're making progress on the other stuff though (like the $700 kayak we've used for all of 45 minutes the past 10 years).

Yeah, thanks. I'm getting pretty excited.
Minimizing is challenging, but a little exhilarating. I'm gobsmacked at some of the silly stuff I've stuffed into the attic over my life.

Getting rid of it is better than hoarding it and passing it on. We have closests (plural) full of decorations and knick knacks that we've inherited but don't feel we can get rid of because someone close to us and them (eg if the person we got them from was a great aunt or whatever, their kids - our aunts - or our parents for stuff from our grandparents) are still around. But I've been seriously tempted to let our kids (4 and 8) put the decorations up in their rooms (and if they get broken, they get broken) and use the heirloom quilts because, otherwise, they'll just sit in boxes for a future generations to open and say, "what the hell is this and who is it from?"
Like FuriousFerret's kayak that once cost a chunk of change but is now sitting unused, the kids of the person who left it to us say, "oh, this is such a valuable collection, you're so lucky", but, no, the fact that individual pieces cost a lot of money don't mean it's actually worth a lot of money, and, even if someone else would pay good money for it, it's not worth any money to us if we're not using it and it's just collecting dust in a closet somewhere.

We've reached rock bottom. For the 3rd time SCNCA cancelled the Elite and Masters Road Race Championships. Hopefully something gets picked up and they run it, or at least give it to the racers with the best results SCNCA road races.
We're down to less than a handful of road races this year, but we're not short on crits. Like most problems, I don't think its one thing causing it. The promoters need too many cyclists to turn a profit, NIMBY's killed Everest Challenge and other races, 70% of our land is unraceable during what our association insists as race season, and local government raising prices and requirements based on running races that have 10x to the revenue.

I think this was a lot of the problem this year. I was going to register, but the idea of racing with big climbs in 100 F in the high desert? Nope.

I had to make an unplanned trip to the car repair shop this morning. My wife had to pick me up and take me to work. I have a feeling this is going to be expensive.

Mine last week resulted in us getting a new car. It would have been something in the range of $3-4k to fix a 14 year old car with 140k miles that was no longer worth that.
