My Festive 500 is coming along okay.

Christmas Eve: -15°C (5F). 50 kms/31 miles w/ heavy snow and thin lanes in the bike paths, separated by rutted ice. Glasses kept fogging up & freezing a thin layer of ice so I took them off and went with eyelash icicles.

Boxing Day December 26th: -12°C (10F). 37 kms/22 miles w/ bike path snow lanes and rutted ice.

December 27th: -9°C (15F) 50 kms/31 miles AM commute.

9,675 of 10,000 kms for 2022

138 of 500 kms Festive 500.

if it was not snowing some days or freezing or very cold and raining it would not be a big deal. we did 21 miles today it started out at 52 at 8:30 turned into 38 to 42 and rain with snow /slush in places still. don't like to ride though such on the tandem.

First time I'll be trying this one - 322/500. Seems doable if I put in a century and then some in the coming days. Weather is being accomdating (7-10 °C avg)

I completed my Festive 500 here in and around Seoul, South Korea with some extended commutes to work, a longer afternoon ride on the 28th and then an imperial century late in the week on the 30th to really get some kms under my belt. The century put me just over my yearly goal of 10,000 kms, and I went out the next morning to do 30 kms (18-19 miles?) to finish off the Festive 500.

It's back, and it's cold here. It will be somewhat less cold for the week of the Festive 500 here to the north of Seoul, Korea. Anyone getting out there this year?

Nice. What's the weather going to be like there? We are just coming out of a real cold snap, with things looking much better for the week of the Festive 500, daytime temperatures above freezing even. Also, do you make a ride plan before going into it?

It shouldn't be too bad. Roughly 10 °C - so plenty warm. Hopefully no rain - I don't plan for it particularly. Last year i got 2x 100 km in, which helped a lot in getting to 500. I might try'n do the same this year. But if the weather is too grim, i don't sweat it - GL to you! I'd love to ride in Seoul!

So how did everyone get on with the Festive 500 in 2023? It came very hard for me, and I have to admit I struggled with it. I finished, but it took a lot. I don't have any way of recording indoor rides, so I was outdoors only with work, family etc. competing for my time. I really do not know if I will seriously attempt it again.

I did manage the F500. Timed it so i didn't have too many kms for the last 2 days. Got 3 metric centuries and one longer 70 km ride in. Rest were ~40km. Overall quite fun (aside from one puncture )
