Ahhhh, you're standing outside of River City Bicycles, aren't you? Cool shop huh? The only reason any locals would attack you is because you're wearing Green and Orange together. You're a target for both UofO Duck and OSU Beaver haters.

Yes, that's the place...I was trying to remember the name but couldn't place it, and I didn't feel like turning to my fiancee (who's lived in Portland before) and going, "Say, I'm posting this picture to an internet forum...what's the name of that shop again?"

As for whether or not it's a cool shop...erm, I was only in there for ten minutes? The sculptures visible on the roof stood out to me, and I do recall that the inside reminded of Kozy's Cyclery, which is a local four store chain here in Chicago, though maybe nicer. Seemed like a pretty good selection of cycling-related paraphenalia and some nice new bikes...probably not my "regular" shop (I tend to favor the tiny hole-in-the-wall places; if the parts/service counter is the main counter, so much the better!), but OTOH didn't seem to be full of smarmy salesfolk trying to take advantage of anyone.

EDIT: Cut rant about debt and the bit where I convince myself that my trusty used bike is more than sufficient for me...for now...

The only reason any locals would attack you is because you're wearing Green and Orange together. You're a target for both UofO Duck and OSU Beaver haters.
Ah! Goes to show that the lack of interest in or even general awareness of team sports can still be a dangerous deficiency after all these years. Thanks for the warning. I'll add that on the list of ways to stay on people's good side and fit in, right after speaking somewhat dismissively of McMenamins.

Is that a parachute in the front of your bike? I guess it's in case you fall off of Snoqualmie Pass during your decent into Everett.

Sorry for the double post, but after yesterday's Historic Back Roads Century (my first!) I actually have a photo of me with my racing bike "Hephalocipede" (not the one I normally commute on):

I guess that is an RAF symbol, but it looks suspiciously like a target. Hope it's not on your back too! Plenty of cyclists here have said they feel like they might as well have a target on their back, but you don't have to actually wear one!

Naw, I'm not that stupid. Besides, if a combination of TV, movies, and rock music have taught me anything, it's that you don't get to put the RAF symbol on your back unless you're a smartly-dressed b****** hopped up on amphetamines and riding atop a highly-contoured Italian-made motorscooter, and I wouldn't want to make anyone mistake my vehicle of choice for one of those.

Good eye. Those are PI Vagabonds. I wear them for tris because some races have huge transition areas and you may be running 100m to and from the bike rack, often on muddy grass.

The huge saddlebag of the guy on the left was nothing. I saw guys on comfort bikes with racks and panniers. I remember passing one guy on an ancient Trek hybrid who had actually taken the time to turn on his blinkie!
