I've always just used them to help set height for that specific post, and never bothered to learn if there is a more objective measure. Like you measure it once from BB to saddle, and then know that it is between X and Y marking on the post. So if you remove it for whatever reason later on, then you can just set it based on post marking instead of having to measure the full saddle height.

The cardiologist appointment I’ve been waiting months for was this morning. I walk in, to a room full of white coats and my doc asks for the results of the procedure. What procedure? The last appointment I had was an interview with you.
Apparently he gave me an order to get it done and I either didn’t understand him, or forgot. Or, he didn’t tell me, and figured I would figure it out. Oh well. The receptionist told me to expect this next one to be in October. Oddly, I feel fine. Not even kicking myself. Only two episodes of arrhythmia in those last three months, a couple days apart. Worse comes to worst, I can get it done out of pocket, if I so choose, Life marches on.

I don’t remember ever having it this bad. I’ve had it switching doing an out and back. This was me literally trying every direction and it still hitting me.
Tomorrow I plan on riding early before the wind can start, cars have been bothering me too lately. Plan on zone 1 high cadence. If my legs feel okay I may do some 3x2 sweet spot. I’ll do it on the checkpoint make sure it’s all good to go, plan on giving it a deep clean tomorrow. Looks like the rain will be minimal so I don’t think I’ll worry about mounting the mud tires. I’ll just run the Schwalbe 40 mm
Tenperature is calling for 36 at race start with 9-15 mph winds. Character building.
