I know, right?
Makes one want to go back in time and slap some sense into people at Bicycling.

Thanks. This was particularly timely for me as I just picked up a 60cm Atlanta frame with Colorado Concept, Reynolds steel tubing. I've only put 110 miles on it since building it up so can't report much on the ride yet. I think I weighed it at the same 20.8 lbs as his slightly larger Ti bike though my frame and fork weigh 1.3 pounds more than his. I made no particular effort for a light build. I haven't got everything dialed in yet.

Thanks for posting this, SpeedofLite. These magazine articles are always a fun read. I'm a little surprised at the weight(20.8#). I have 62cm Atlanta(with the Colorado Concept steel tubes)with Chorus 10 speed, and it's just over 21 pounds.

I don't believe I've ever actually seen the DA FC-7401 crankset. That thing is gorgeous! Seems like it's a rarity--even searching Google Images doesn't bring up too many examples.
Are they particularly rare?

I don't get it. If you want a bike that performs like steel does, why not just make it out of steel? The weight savings seems minimal. Sure, steel rusts, but it doesn't have to.

I mainly just meant that if you keep your bike inside and dry, then you can keep rust from becoming a problem.
I'm not happy about Reynolds not selling 953 though. My dream road bike is a custom David Kirk frame made with 953 with silver filet brazing. Beautiful
