Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Found my new bike!

For those of you who may have been following my saga this week, you know that some scumbag stole my beloved Felt on Tuesday. Ever since I have been obsessively seeking a replacement bike that won't break the bank...around $1000. It was between a Scattante or something from Bikes Direct. I wasn't real excited about either prospect.

Anyway, on the way home from work I decided to drop by this bike shop. Don't know why, but I felt compelled to check this place out. I had been there before but they focus mostly on beach cruisers and MTB. Anyway, to make a long story short, there in the store was a beautiful black and blue 2011 Giant Defy 1, full 105 (shifters, FD, RD, and cranks...generic brakes, but that is easily rectified). It was my size and it was the very last one and on sale. $999!

This thing is SWEET! The only problem is that I have to wait till my insurance claim is settled to pick it up (I put it on layaway since it was the last one). Anyway, I am completely stoked and can't wait to bring her home.

Looks like a good bike. Good choice.

If you have a little extra money lying around, pitch those crappy tires and get a set of conti gp4000s.

I agree. Will go with some Rubino Pro Slicks. I'll also ditch the blue tape and blue spacers.

The picture above does not do the bike justice. The blue in person is a lot darker.

I really like the blue, I just think there is a little too much for my liking. Might have to replace the blue seat clamp as well. If you know what my Felt looked like, you know I like plain black. I think I'll use some of this tape to at least keep a little blue flavor on the bars: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/pr...paign=Datafeed

I'll definately need one of these https://www.bikebling.com/Niner-YAWYD...wyd-topcap.htm

Hey, congrats on the new bike. I just picked up a Defy 1 a few weeks ago, but alas, mine wasn't on sale. You got a great deal.

I hope you get your insurance check soon. Good choice - for both of us!!!

Very nice choice. Congrats! I do like the color scheme as is though. That's what sets the Defy from the rest.

Hopefully you'll pick it up soon!

My last bike was a Defy, and the Defy Advanced was a top contender for my newest bike. Those are some really slick frames.... you will love it.

Nice looking bike, I wouldn't change a thing except for the spacers. It's a cheap change and who would want to emphasize their spacers? I would even run the tires until they wore out or became an issue. I never throw away usable tires though.
