they circumvent distributors. here in canada, there are relatively few distributors of bike parts and sundries, and manufacturers have agreements with them which include relatively high price floors. so when you go to your lbs, they get their piece of cheese, and so does the distributor, and the manufacturer gets a bigger piece.

chainreaction bypasses the traditional distributor and consequent pricing arrangements said distributor may have with manufacturers.

No, they don't. The European distributor doesn't actually inflate prices 3 times as much, that's the actual explanation.
