Just got a Vitus 979 with Campagnolo Veloce off Ebay

Just recently I found a nice looking Vitus 56cm all aluminum bike advertised on Ebay. It was originally advertised for $550 plus shipping. I made an offer of $475 and the seller accepted that offer. The bike has a fairly complete Campagnolo Veloce groupset on it. The rear wheel is a Mavic Open Pro rim on a Campag hub. The front wheel unfortunately is a mismatched Matrix rim on a older Shimano 105 hub. Both 32 spoke wheels. The shiny Campag brake calipers and derailleurs look good with the alloy bike frame (no color anodizing on the frame tubes). The bike came with a strange Dimension quill stem that angled the handlebars way up in the air so I am trying to source a more appropriate quill stem for the bike. It also came with a short lady's saddle made by Terry so I have sourced an older Selle San Marco saddle for it as a replacement more appropriate to the bike.

The serial on the lower edge of the bottom bracket shell is E120050. I have done some research to try and determine the approximate vintage of the frame but there seems to be some disagreement about how to actually decode Vitus serial numbers.

I have corresponded with a Youtube bike dude in the UK (Andy from Bikeit UK) and he says this is a slightly later 979 frame because of the type of seat post clamp this bike has.

Nice bike, looks like it's all there. Those Vituses have a small but loyal following. If one ever comes across my radar screen I'd probably pull the trigger right away.
