FS: full set of DiaCompe 987 canti brakes in purple
Up for sale is a set (for both front and rear wheel) of purple anodized Dia Compe 987 cantiliever brakes. Sale includes all hardware, straddle cable, and Kool Stop pads with a decent amount of life left. Not included are straddle cable hangers. Some corrosion on the hardware but the arms themselves are in quite good shape.
The 987 model (If I have that # right) is unique in that the springs go into sleeved bushings, rather than into the canti studs themselves. That should make them quite versatile for the various kinds of canti posts that have appeared over the years.
Price is $45 shipped via USPS Priority Mail in the CONUS. Payment via PayPal or Venmo.

IIRC, the 987’s are designed the same as 986’s, but with a lower profile. I used the 986’s on my Rock Combo build.
The part that acts as the friction stop against the frame has lands that are either 15 or 13mm (can’t recall - one of my cone wrenches fit it perfectly) so that the tension can be balanced between the two sides of the canti. Both sides can be adjusted so one can increase or decrease the spring load while keeping the tension balanced.
With the mounting bolt just loose enough, one increases or decreases spring tension then tightens the bolt. Repeat on the other side. It’s a great idea in principle: essentially infinite adjustability without the need for a spring hole in the frame. But it takes patience to achieve total harmony. Once you get the hang of it though, the process is pretty quick. They’re great brakes. Even better in purple!

I've thought about home anodizing before but after reading all about Caswell's kits, it just seemed like too much work. I did buy Caswell's chrome kit and used it in 2015-2016 to re-chrome small parts like derailleur cages and crank bolts. Worked well but was finicky to set up and time consuming to do. At this point in my life I'm happy leaving stuff like chroming, anodizing, and frame painting to the professionals.
