I would say just the female ones. For instance, if I owned a Surly LHT, I don't think i could give it a female name. That bike seems like a guy. Named Bob. Who is never hot-tempered, but rarely lets you down. Just a nice, steady, totally dependable guy named Bob.

I have two ladies with names currently.
The Defy3 is named Jasmine. Name explained here.
My Walmart Schwinn is named Peggy, after Peggy Bundy. Big, red, makes a lot of noise, but still a hell of a lot of fun to ride, you just don't want to brag too much about it, you know?

Considering the level of abuse being hurled as invectives by Roadie's toward Hybrid-owners, I have decided to name my hybrid in reference to those who dress-up like insects and buzz around on carbon-frames.
Meet Orkin. I'll be adding steel-bars & razor-studded hubs:

Mine is named Shasta. I'm a geologist from California. The colors are blue, red, white, black, and grey. Those are the colors you'd see on an erupting Mt Shasta.

I could name all my bikes, but, like cats, they still don't come when they're called.

I'm going to start naming the ones I don't like after ex'es. That way it'll prompt me to get rid of them and wonder what I ever saw in riding that thing

Klein road bike = poseur points bike
Bridgestone road bike = retro grouch bike
Fixed gear bike = Sammy Hagar (it's painted red)
Tandem = love machine
Marin = beater bike (it'd make sense if you saw it)
Porsche mountain bike = Porsche (not too original but ...)

That's truth in advertising for you!
I'll try to find a picture in the IHPVA archives.

All my bikes get women’s names because like a woman, they will one day be the death of me.
2006 Specialized Allez Elite: Nikki
Custom folder: Bridget (sold last year to a 6’3” opera singe - I miss her everyday. NEVER sell a bike, no matter what your wife says!)
Specialized 29er: Olga – she strong like ox…
1895 Boneshaker: Penny
Moyer Track bike: Svetlana – sexy like only a Russian porn star can be
1979 Raleigh Supercourse (converted to SS): Gabby: For Gabrielle Reese because like her namesake, she is too tall for me, quick, responsive, beautiful, agile, sleek, and if you don’t pay her the proper amount of attention while riding her you will likely end up on the pavement broken and bleeding.

When I got my 1992 Ford Taurus from my grandfolks-in-law (gifted! free car!) there was a small engine issue. I talked about it one day while driving. This was maybe 6 months after seeing that episode of Shipmates. So I mention how this rattle/thump was driving me nuts and SHAKECRASHBOOM the car stopped dead. Tow truck and repairs. Turns out the master cylinder was leaking onto a rubber bushing for the engine mount and I tore the whole mount loose at some point. The thump? That was my engine raising itself up almost three inches and then slamming back downward each time I got on the gas in a heavy way. I drove from New haven CT to Pittsburgh PA and back like that once.
A few days after the car was fixed I heard a noise while driving. Just some random road noise, and I was started to mention it to my wife when she shushed me. "Not in front of the car! Remember what happened?"
We made jokes and somehow ended up connecting that Russian ribbon gymnast with the car...you can't comment on her or she'll throw a tantrum. So now the car is Svetlana, and we don't comment on her when she can hear us.

I'm working on a name for my '10 Specialized Crosstrail Elite. I'm currently thinking Intruder or Spektr, as inspired by Infinity (table top war game) or a suitably ostentatious name, a la something from the Imperial Navy in Warhammer 40k.
