I did do some digging around though to see if there was a difference in standards between the two. It seems the pass/fail threshold of both styles of helmet is the same at around 300 g for most standards (I'm pretty sure a 300 g acceleration of your noodle is beyond fatal BTW) with a 5 kg headform but the final velocity used for bicycle helmets was much higher at 6.2 m/s vs. 4.5 m/s for the hockey helmets so the energy involved in the bike helmet testing is quite a bit higher, likely to account for the higher possible velocities on a bicycle versus hockey skates.
I'm somewhat ambiguous about these numbers though as a) the standards are updated periodically and I'm not paying to see the new information and b) research into motorcycle helmets has shown that a helmet that can survive a higher impact often transmits more energy to the head. To make the helmet less susceptible to damage you have to make it harder which in turn makes it less able to absorb energy.
Anyway, here are a couple of links to the information I've referenced (I didn't look for the motorcycle research, it's been years since I read it and I can't honestly be bothered):

I'm sure wearing a hockey helmet beats wearing nothing at all. How on Earth did we old guys and gals ever survive not wearing helmets back before the mid-late '70s?
I don't want to start a flame war - yet another helmet or not argument here on BF. I was simply providing the OP with another helmet choice.

There are a few reasons though why I wouldn't ride in a hockey helmet.

Thinking the same.
hey, i just got a motorcycle helmet to use on my bicycle since it's full-face and has a wind shield that i can pull down, good for cold weather. however i think it's a little too big to use on a bike, i would rather get a full face bicycle helmet with a drop down face shield, but i haven't seen any that have that, that area seems to be open and they expect you to use goggles instead.
i'm referring to the style of helmet like the 661 mountain bike lineup: the rage, comp....
does anyone know of helmets like this with face shields available?

I blame the disintegration of teh Biek Forms -- especially, but not only, General Cycling -- on t'Covid. Endless 'winter'. No other explanation, surely?

One leg of panty hose. If it gets icy, just trade legs. Bonus, you have a pony tail!

i tried forming and fitting a 1/8" thick lexan polycarbonate sheet and failed as quickly overheating the sheet caused bubbling in the material which ruined the transparency, so i will be attempting with a 1/16" sheet now, which should be easier to bend without causing the same problem
-Turn oven to 225
-Turn over a cookie sheet and cover with a dish towel
- Lay out plastic on towel insert into oven and allow to heat until it is flexible - about 10-20 min depending on thickness
-Pick up plastic with thick gloves - bend to shape - and dunk in bathtub filled with cold water.
If you don't like the shape, re-heat in oven and try again.
