Looking for a page or two from a Gazelle catalogue

I have restored a vintage 1951 Gazelle bicycle from Holland. I want to find out the model name or model number of the bike. Does anybody have access to a Gazelle catalogue that I get a photo of a page or two for my research? Alternately, does anybody know where I could find such a catalogue?

Can't help you with catalogues but that sure resembles a Birmingham Hercules of the same era. Very similar frames but I'm sure yours is from Holland. There was some cross-pollination between the British and Dutch bike industries. Your crank also looks like a Williams or Nicklin. Any markings?

The earliest reference that I can find is from 1954.

Sorry, I cannot post photos until I have 10 posts.
If we can't find the bike catalog, we will give the model name and model number to that bike.

Model Name: Vintage Dutch Mother-In-Law Bike
Mode Number: 1951.

That's what I would call it. Doesn't work for you? It works for me.

Eyes Roll I have informally called it a 1951 Gazelle Oma Fiets. 'Oma Fiets' is Dutch for 'Grandma's bicycle'. I want to know the real model name just 'because'.
This is definitely a 1951 Dutch Gazelle. The frame number indicated a 1951 vintage and my in-laws came to Canada from Holland in 1951. The fiets was new when they boarded the boat in June 1951.

Gazelle Oma Fiets sounds even better.

Your best shot to get the required information would be to send the picture(s) of the bike the way you found it before the restoration and write to the Gazelle company itself by filling in their contact form or calling them up. No guarantees if the young generation working there at this time will get back to you with the bike catalog or model name though. Good luck!

Fabulous job!
You are more likely to attract the interest of members with knowledge about Gazelle if you include "Gazelle" in the title of your thread.
I would suggest flagging your own original post by clicking on the little red exclamation mark in the bottom left corner of that post. In the box that then appears you can ask the moderators to add the word "Gazelle" to the title.

Maybe, the real model name is Gazelle Toer Populair? I don't know, I am just taking a shot. Also, it looks like the metal enclosure on the drive train side was missing.

Eyes Roll I don't know about the chain cover. Every picture I have seen about this bike, it has been missing.

I'm thinking that the chain guard frame supported fibreboard skins that would simply degrade as time passed. Materials changed. I've seen stamped metal, plastic, and something like waxed jute on models with holes to lace through.

clubman You are probably correct. I was not able to find anything out where to get/find a replacement or what it would be made of. Would you have a suggestion regarding what I could search for?

Nice work!

It looks to be a model P, given the chromed rims. Any color you wanted, as long as it was black. Best pic I could find, from the 1952 catalogue:

If you want to know more or speak to other owners of similar bikes, there is a forum, which is specialized in these old black indestructible machines: forum.oudefiets.nl. Forum membership is free. Membership of the club that owns the forum is about $30 a year, and will give you access to their data bank as well as to the VC-C Library, which is a rather attractive proposition, IMO.

The forum is in Dutch, but I'm sure most members can handle questions in English.

non-fixie Wow! Thank you. This is what I was looking for. I will go to the Dutch site because I want to try to find a jasbeschermer. All I can find are made out of elastic or thread. I would like a plastic or metal (probably tin) one. I also want to find the outer portion of the chain guard. This is probably made out of fibre board or equivalent.
I will ask the Gazelle group these questions.
Thank you again for the photo, I really appreciate it!!

Smart move. It's that generation of bicycles, especially Gazelle that got them the name 'oma fiets' because they got passed on to the teenage grandchildren when oma stopped cycling, probably because she died. Very well build bicycles.
