Anatomic vs. Standard HandleBars
Hi, in the process of getting back into my bike after a few years and was wondering about anatomic handlebars. Is it just personal preference or are there physical angles and mysterious intersecting cosmic rays which also affect their attributes? I really have no first hand knowledge of them so I'm trying to learn a little about them and people who like them or don't and why. I almost always stay on the hoods so not sure it matters much but I need to replace my bars and thought maybe the anatomic bars might facilitate easier and more comfortable time on the drops. I admit the traditional curves in the front of the bars do not naturally lend themselves to the ergonomics of the hands/arms.

I have some old Ritchey bars with a flattish section in the drops. Seems to make it easier to reach the levers. I don't know if they even make them anymore.

I tried a set of Cinelli bars with those flattish angles in the drops. Couldn't get comfortable with them. Sometimes I'm in the drops while standing to pedal (climbs into headwind or sprints). I couldn't find a balance point with those bars. Switched back to classic curved drops on one bike, and FSA Omega compact drops on another.
