Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fortunate. I witnessed the opposite this morning. The rest of the Saturday Road Ride group decided to do a Fat Bike ride in the Sheyenne Grasslands so I was going solo.

Heading North on 2nd Street right by the back side of City Hall and I saw a Dark Gray Dodge RAM pickup ( ND plate DAV 2135 ) force a young man on a bike heading South into the curb, then stop and get out and start screaming at him and threatening him.

Since I am fairly large and look like your average Hand Egg Middle Linebacker, I decided to stop and see if I could defuse the situation. Guy started screaming at me... but no more threats of violence.

"Perfectly good sidewalk" (business zone, no bikes on sidewalks), "almost made me wreck" (plenty of room to pass), and finally "call the police...I'll wait right here" (of course he didn't).

So what I witnessed seemed to me to be a violent assault and a failure to perform the duties of a driver. Betcha the Fargo PD does sod all. Unless this was caught on a security camera at City Hall I am quite sure that nothing will come of it. Even if it was, local PD doesn't seem to give two ***** about anything. SIGH!!!

They tell us to ride on the sidewalk, until they're walking on the sidewalk.

The worst is the Lime Scooter riders, going on sidewalk/ bike path/ road at their preference and then just leaving the things everywhere.

Just good old people trying to make a buck with a fundraiser to keep the town going. Pretty sure the pancake was a box mix and the sausage patties were Jimmy Dean. Seeing a few old friends and making new ones was worth way more than the generic cakes and sausage.

We got Indian carry-out for dinner including Baingan bharta and veg navrattan korma, along with some veg samosa and onion bajhia appetizer and cool raita to quench the heat. It was really good.

I asked my wife what she wanted to do for supper, eat out or cook. She said, "I'm tired and just going to have an egg sandwich. You're on your own."

I made grits.

Is it common knowledge what these are?

I hate to hear about people getting hurt on rides. Usually makes me question why I even do it.

Why no cycling apparel reviews written by guys with a bit of belly?

The only club ride that appealed to me today went west through the hills and some friends were doing it. Since they are faster than I am I drove ahead and started solo.
Couple thousand feet of climbing later and I felt bad. Couldn't get going and my heart rate seemed to go too high on every effort. Still, it was beautiful in the hills and the others never caught me.
I waited a bit and finally just rode to the coffee stop and they were there. They had decided to skip the climbs and took the easy way instead. They joked about texting me because I don't have a phone.

Great, now I'm tired from climbing after feeling crappy to begin with and I have to chase faster riders. I made a go of it and eventually one of the other guys turned off to cut the course because he was feeling crappy too. I found out about this when I chased the others down some miles later. I tried after that but I was feeling bad so I left them and one of them went with me. We all reunited at the second planned rest stop.

It was hot and humid but not as hot as I've dealt with lately. One of the other guys said it affected him and another just dropped off on every hill on the way back. It's the first time in a long time that I have had nausea when climbing and had that feeling of being too hot. Still dropped that one guy's ass, though.

Club fit? Performance had their own clothing line for years and I have some tattered stuff I still wear sometimes. For full-figure guys.

It would also be good to have older gentlemen review them so you can find bib that will keep you from sitting on your junk. Let's face it - a lot of the adherents of cycling are, in fact, fat old men. We're underrepresented in all the cycling YouTube channels!

Google's open 24/7. Halftime now but I'm not googling as there are pork chops, sauerkraut, and taters to attend to.

I saw a jersey that says skin tight fir with stretch. What I want to know is whether I will look ,ore stupid in it than I already look.

I’m 6’ with 36” waist, and certainly do not wear a small. Or medium. And most likely not a large.
