so, I tied the can on my scary chrome build and went to the gas station.
it was a scary, noisy, rattling ride as this is mostly just fit together, but not put together.
and when I got home I mowed the lawn.
Unknown KHS frame.
Small stem with a shim.
mismatched headset parts
Bendix two speed coaster brake axle in back.
Nitto Racks
Blackburn bottle cage
Wald mudguards from a pink step through cruiser.
English saddle and a French pump.

I know that frame. Glad it’s in good hands, ST!

I may see if I have the time to make something horrible out of a Shogun frame I have hanging around. (That one I bought out of someone's garage for $25. It was my commuter for a while, but I stole the parts for my new commuter frame a couple of years ago.)

1974 Sears Free Spirit 531

Here you go. I replaced the rusty Titlist front derailleur with a Sun Tour Spirt and the stem shifters with Campy downtube levers. I got the fluted 27.2 seat post for $5 at a bike swap, and replaced the cracked AVA stem with an SR from the parts bin. The Avocet saddle came with it. I added the shorty fenders because they fit in with the era. I left the chain guard off because I didn't like how it looked. I think the brakes came from the Box O' Crap some time ago.

It's still no beauty queen, but looks better than when I started.

1974 Sears Free Spirit 531 as found.
As found this is tough comp pump up the tires ride it in the rain and your in the running. I would be hard pressed to change much and still have work without spending a tone leave it as is.

Not bad looking. Here's mine, although I've changed stem, bar tape, rear wheel (and residence) since this photo.

Got a little more work done on the Fuji coaster and did a bit of riding. I probably won't do much more to this one other than ride getting into rabbit hole build range could pretty easy sink another $50-100 and 10 hours into this one with not much improvement horror Franienbike or ride wise. Hoping for a half foot of snow with fall yellow aspens in the background on Saturday with a bit of sun for some great pics of this one and the Jeunet.

I’m not sure, but with that stem shouldn’t the bars be turned around the other way.

Absolutely! It wouldn’t interfere with braking using the turkeys either! Since there will be very little braking done...

Today I get to raise the stakes with Kurt about his building a Frankenbike. I'll see your fork parts and raise you one Mafac brake for reinforcement help.

He claims this is needed for his participation in building a bike. I can't wait to see Frammenstein with a torch in his hand.

So Doctor Frammenstein these are going to be easy to install as most of the work has been done by Harry in the design of the parts.
HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!!! Smiles, MH

I just installed the rear derailleur on the Smella.

The forged dropout was too thick for the original mounting bolt on the claw, so I had to replace it with a bolt from my fender installation stash.

Time to crank it up!

If you're squinting at the chainring bolts in the first picture above and wondering...yeah, I did that.

And since I needed something from Spain, I went with a Zeus left crank arm.

So, just for the crank and bottom bracket, I've got parts Sugino, Shimano, RaceFace, Campagnolo, Zeus, Stronglight, and whover made the crank fixing bolts, covering Japan, Canada, Italy, Spain, France, and probably Taiwan.

In my last picture above you can also see my lovely Minoura bottle cage clamp on adapter, and the front derailleur. I had intended to use the Shimano Thunder Bird front derailleur that came with my shifters, but it turns out that has a 25.4 mm clamp diameter! I guess I'll have to save it for my Huffy Aerowind project.

As the co-sponsor of the monster mash, I am a bit embarrassed I have not made progress to show, but progress in organizing the garage to be able to have room to move, and store stuff.

Phase 1 done. I have to do it in phases to clear out the next phase.

Paint phase 1

Structure phase 1
