How Much Weight Did You Carry?
I got nailed from the doctor for not drinking enough for yesterdays ride. You see,, I was pulling the trailer (55lbs+ of food) and I didn't bring enough water on this ride and ran out 1/2 way out.. Did anyone put a little too much on their trailer and if so, what was the weight of your load?

When I had twins in my trailer, yeah, that weight was not out of the question

I didn't know that this topic would be concerning trailers. My current max load has been a 40 lbs bag of cat litter, which I carried in a basket, strapped to the rear rack, high up on a 700c bicycle.

How did the doctor find out? I had a check up that day, after I came back. Blood work made me stand out. I explained it to the nurse, O' she said. (Everyone ride out here.)

I hauled 50+ lbs of groceries home from the store a few times using panniers in the SoCal heat, but I always refilled my water bottle(s) before leaving the store so I had enough to get home w/o running out.

I've cut down on my cargo hauling a bit. But...
Mighty Heavy. It had to be separated into 2 loads.
I have a couple of small hills to go over too which are a major pain when pulling a heavy load.
This would have been at a water stop halfway through the ride.
I will admit that I don't go very fast when the bike/trailer combo reaches around 500 lbs.

The most I've carried was about 61 pounds, half in a backpack, half in my panniers. My Trek FX hybrid bike can comfortably handle and maneuver with up to 45 or 50lb, but up to 65 was doable.

In the 80s I pulled a custom cart with the Tandem that weighed around 50lbs empty. We had three children loaded in it and did errands and grocery shopping with it.

I know I towed about 120 lbs of paving stones once. There was a mild hill. I think I once towed about 180 lbs without any hills.

When my kids were toddlers, I would tow them in my Burley trailer. It was a bit of a challenge climbing out of the park back to the parking lot. Together with snacks and diapers, it may have been 100+ lbs.
Nowadays, I cycle all over the city alone with water, food, tools, spare tube, u-lock, electronics and spare batteries and power pack. The Arkel bag alone may be already over 5lb of heavy canvas. The total weight may be 15 to 20 lbs.
