@gazman22 I'm on hold while some work things are filling my time and the weather begins to turn to spring. Once I'm back in the garage, the frame will be dropped off for chemical paint stripping. I will then determine what to do next. I found a slightly newer Frejus frame in the same size and the seller is hanging on to it for me, to give me a chance to figure out if this frame I have is worth having repaired (or if it even needs it). I think at this point, repairing will cost more than the replacement frame + my time and materials for a repaint. Not sure what to do yet.

Crankset is finished, and a correct Campy bottom bracket spindle has been procured from Harry Hovnanin in PA. The Zeus track pedals have been completely restored and rebuilt, with brown leather Christophe straps. The handlebars were next but the weather took a turn this winter and I decided to get out of the garage for a while.

I'll post photos of the pedals later today. They turned out fantastic.

Yes, you are right. Got a little optimistic. The brass brush is making progress. I think this bike will end up looking like a survivor. The Evaporust bath will tackle all the frame rust...the chrome will be what it will be.

You scored a good bike (not sure the reference to Thunder or Lightning) but a part made by Gaslo is missing.

Dating will be interesting as the crank is bcd 144 but the brakes have a metal QR, which is inconsistent from an age perspective. The locknuts on the wheels may have a date stamp which should help narrow down the original date.

Agree on the unsightliness of the twist, but it very much does serve a purpose, it keeps the strap and buckle correctly positioned in the pedal so they can be tightened down on the fly with the slack in the right place.

another apparent time contradiction on the gazman22 machine is the presence of the Ambrosio Champion stem

these would have been used up well before the transition to the one forty-four

the 3TTT Gran Prix launched mcmlxiii-mcmlxiv; certainly possible Bozzi may have had some Champions to use up prior to commencing to fit the Gran Prix

possible the one forty-four may be a replacement, pending more data

definitely not one of the forum's Bozzi experts

other readers sure to have more & better information to contribute

the cycle's Record front gear mech appears late enough to have been produced without a housing stop

one date which would seem to fit if we accept that Emilio was using up old stock with the Champion stem is 1967

You can massage carefully with petroleum jelly and wrap with cling wrap to keep them as they are or massage with clear silicone sealer and possibly glue all the crumbly in place.

I have had very good luck with some newer Campy hoods that were splitting as well as a few others.

Likely a fools errand to be sure but you're right that logo is awesome.
