gazman that frame is much larger, refinish what you have. Remove the fork and shake it listening for rust tinkle-ing.

I have no idea what you said, but I'm sure it's about a bike. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@gazman22 I'm on hold while some work things are filling my time and the weather begins to turn to spring. Once I'm back in the garage, the frame will be dropped off for chemical paint stripping. I will then determine what to do next. I found a slightly newer Frejus frame in the same size and the seller is hanging on to it for me, to give me a chance to figure out if this frame I have is worth having repaired (or if it even needs it). I think at this point, repairing will cost more than the replacement frame + my time and materials for a repaint. Not sure what to do yet.

Crankset is finished, and a correct Campy bottom bracket spindle has been procured from Harry Hovnanin in PA. The Zeus track pedals have been completely restored and rebuilt, with brown leather Christophe straps. The handlebars were next but the weather took a turn this winter and I decided to get out of the garage for a while.

I'll post photos of the pedals later today. They turned out fantastic.

[QUOTE=gazman22;23153152]Hello Purpurite,

Any word on your frame? I just came home with this and depending on how the chrome cleans up I may be in need of a fork!

Sellers photos attached. Will post more when I get a chance...

Nice, saw you leaving the sale with it and the Allegro. Not sure what these were off of but I didn't want go leave them behind.

Well, me leaving those behind was definitely not by design! That said, I would not want you to leave empty handed....

Yes, you are right. Got a little optimistic. The brass brush is making progress. I think this bike will end up looking like a survivor. The Evaporust bath will tackle all the frame rust...the chrome will be what it will be.

The 99% finished Zeus Track pedals...

Here's where they started:

Here's the result:

Don't worry, I know the straps aren't tucked into the buckles, they are just taking a shape for when they are ridable. And no, I'm not twisting them. I don't like the way it looks and it really doesn't serve a purpose.

I do so enjoy interpreting juvela ’s messages, so let me give this one a try:

——-

Please start a thread on this bike.

You scored a good bike (not sure the reference to Thunder or Lightning) but a part made by Gaslo is missing.

Dating will be interesting as the crank is bcd 144 but the brakes have a metal QR, which is inconsistent from an age perspective. The locknuts on the wheels may have a date stamp which should help narrow down the original date.

——-

Hopefully this helps.

Agree on the unsightliness of the twist, but it very much does serve a purpose, it keeps the strap and buckle correctly positioned in the pedal so they can be tightened down on the fly with the slack in the right place.

Gaslo's may be bar plugs, agree on the parsing of juvela's excellent commentary.

Fulmine is a product name from Vittoria for the accessory fitted to the seat rails for the purpose of carrying a spare tubular, or rain cape

Nicky Arregui prodouced a replica -

---

the Gaslo-Frejus handlebar endcaps which would have been original are not in residence -

---

temporal question -

would have guessed there was no overlap between the introduction of the one forty-four BCD and the QR change in the Giovanni Galli brake lever from metal to red plastic - an interesting moment in time

date on hub axle locknuts might provide a clue

of course we do not know that hubs be original

the Bozzi experts will be able to give a date from the serial

another apparent time contradiction on the gazman22 machine is the presence of the Ambrosio Champion stem

these would have been used up well before the transition to the one forty-four

the 3TTT Gran Prix launched mcmlxiii-mcmlxiv; certainly possible Bozzi may have had some Champions to use up prior to commencing to fit the Gran Prix

possible the one forty-four may be a replacement, pending more data

definitely not one of the forum's Bozzi experts

other readers sure to have more & better information to contribute

the cycle's Record front gear mech appears late enough to have been produced without a housing stop

one date which would seem to fit if we accept that Emilio was using up old stock with the Champion stem is 1967

You can massage carefully with petroleum jelly and wrap with cling wrap to keep them as they are or massage with clear silicone sealer and possibly glue all the crumbly in place.

I have had very good luck with some newer Campy hoods that were splitting as well as a few others.

Likely a fools errand to be sure but you're right that logo is awesome.
