Went on a FAST group ride in Central Park
Road with a super fast group ride last week in Central Park. These guys are hitters. I had not ridden with riders these fast in a while. I filmed it and added power metrics. Check out the video below.

Sick vid, are you going to race in monstertrack? its on labor day weekend this year. Even if you don't have a track bike you could tag along and get some sick footage, it should be wild.

Being a solo rider this is unnerving to watch and seems like I would never be able to pull it off. However the speeds are not any different than riding solo as such I just would be skittish about folks riding on both sides of me not to far apart. Cool video.

Cool video! I was surprised that the group was kind of all over the place instead of in an organized pace line for the most part. Maybe it just appeared that way from the view of the camera? Not that it matters.
Impressive speeds!

Did you happen to see a shirtless guy riding a hybrid with gimpy brakes?

Tip: work on holding wheels just a bit closer. Unless the video makes the distance look far.
On that big long dig into your max 1min power at that speed you likely lost out on maybe 50w or more of draft on that dude. It's tough at that power level to make the power and hold good position, but it's worth it. At those speeds it can mean making the break or a drop. That dig looks like it cost you a lot of energy and the guy got away. For that much effort, it's a "make it or break it" moment.
Other observation was there was quite a bit of lazier wheel following going on there by the group as a whole. Not you, just the group in general. On our weeknight worlds we don't get so close we rub shoulders and elbows like a rush for the 200m sign to line up a sprint in a race or some crap, but pretty dang close. Also, we generally expect folks to be pulling and pulling through downhill also. So folks on front would be pulling hard and coming off after short work on the downhills.

my nice bike is at home
21 mph up the hill is respectable, and to see that other guy slip over way ahead of you- even more so.
Up the hill is a sprint and it's great to dominate there, but in elsewhere in the park I don't like to go THAT fast ( even when I can get near those speeds..) it seems
inherently dangerous, a bit nerve wracking, I like to keep that flow for 9W.

Like BTS, I spent a lot of that video saying "close the gap, close the gap!" But you are hella strong and you've got the watts to make up for it. Come out to Sac and hit the River Ride, I think you'll enjoy it. Great video. Thanks for posting!

It has been years since I did laps around Central Park. This was before they banned cars in 2018. But, I remember NYP setting up speed check points throughout the Park to catch cyclists who were exceeding the speed limit of 15mph (although it appears they increased it to 20mph). A lot of cyclists I knew, got nabbed and were ticketed. Also, during the summer the Park would be crowded with people, and the bike paths would be blocked by bicycle taxis. All of this would make going 25-30mph throughout the loop very difficult.
Based on this video, I didn't see any bike taxis, the Park looked less crowded and I didn't even see Parks enforcement personnel.
I guess Covid did away with the bike taxis and the crowds? And ticketing cyclists for exceeding speed limits is no longer the top priority for the NYP?

I used to ride that loop. The cross-walking tourists scared the *$#& out of me - they'd just blindly walk across the road, or just move around/turn while walking on that loop. I only felt comfortable in mornings before the sun came up.
