Shimano Ulterga 9 speed shifter brake
HI,
Having a little problem, with my 9 speed, rear derailer, ultrega shifter, it becomes alittle sticky at times,
If I press forward on the lever it will engage the gear, The LBS says it may free up when it warms up,
But he may need to replace the entire unit on that side.
He did try to free it up with some special lubricant they use on bikes,
I can get it to engage if I press the lever forward towards the brake lever and then to the left.
Its seem the rachet mech is gummy? Very expensive to replace.

A very thorough purge with WD-40, kerosene or mineral spirits followed by lubeing with a light oil like Tri-flow will often free up the internals and restore good shifting.
Shimano STIs are basically unservicable but the solvent wash technique has a good track record for salvaging them.

I've had that problem and what worked for me was a good shot of Superlube teflon lube at all pivoting areas. I have friends that had that problem also, and the shot of Superlube did the trick.
