Steel rigid to front shock????

I have a 97 schwinn frontier. It has a 26" wheels and a 1 1/8" threaded headset. I would like to have a suspension up front. Some may say just buy a new bike, but I'm poor and I have a perfectly good frame. What options do I have? What would be a solid front fork upgrade? I would appreciate any suggestions.
