New toy: Ken Rogers trike kit

(whoops, meant to put this in the main C&V forum. Can a mod move it there?)

Got an old Ken Rogers Trike conversion kit from fellow forms member Randyjawa a little bit ago (the one he had up in the for sale/trade section). Bolted it up to a junky Schwinn frame with a mishmash of parts and we are off and running.

I am not really used to riding it yet; all one's bike instincts are exactly wrong with it. But my 14 year old son took to it immediately. That is him in the pictures. Riding with one wheel off the ground is not hard for him, and he has figured out that if he reaches down and grabs the off wheel with his hand he can do quick zero radius turns. I just built the wheels on it, so I am curious to see how long they last under him.

Two action shots of him on it attached.

Looks like fun, I may come by and try it out one day.

Where is the trail?

Looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully it survives the 14 year old.

Were you able to put a rear brake on it?

You will have to shift your weight to the inside of turns (Especially with off-camber turns.) as the trike cannot lean into it like a two wheeler.
Braking while turning on downhill off-camber or flat turns can get very hairy if you don't slow down enough.... be careful until you riding instincts can adapt to the trike......!

Anyone brave enough to ride it is welcome, as far as I am concerned. Be my guest!

The trail is the Letort Spring rail to trail in Carlisle. It is only a few miles long. But it does start about 30 feet from my house.

There really is no ready way to get brakes onto the rear. There is no frame near the rims to brace against.
